Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven demons.
Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.
And behold, Jesus met them and said, "Hail!" And they came to him and took hold of his feet and worshipped him.
Now behold, that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. And they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they talked and discussed, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.read more.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, "What is this conversation which you are exchanging with each other as you walk?" And they stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?" And he said to them, "What things?" And they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since all this happened. In addition, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning, and when they did not find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just as the women had said; but him they did not see." And he said to them, "O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures. As they drew near the village to which they were going, he acted as though he would be going farther, but they constrained him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent." So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight.
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you!"
After this Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way he showed himself:
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.
After that he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
And after he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
