And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky [have] nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay [his] head."
Passing through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring. The early rain covers [it with] blessings as well.
By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise.
They will ask [the] way [to] Zion, [turning] their faces there. They will come and join themselves to Yahweh [by] {an everlasting covenant} [that] will not be forgotten.
These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming [them], and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.
Then Peter answered [and] said to him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then will there be for us?"
But now they aspire to a better [land], that is, a heavenly [one]. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.
For he was expecting the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder [is] God.
And if you call on [him] [as] Father who judges impartially according to each one's work, conduct yourselves with fear during the time of your temporary residence,
Send your light and your truth; they shall lead me. They shall bring me to {your holy mountain} and to your dwelling places.
For our commonwealth exists in heaven, from which also we eagerly await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, [that] I dwell among the tents of Kedar. Too long my soul has had its dwelling near [one who] hates peace.
And if they remember that [land] from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.
in order that you may become blameless and innocent, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as stars in the world,
Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, the father-in-law of Moses, "We [are] setting out to the place that Yahweh said, 'I will give it to you'; go with us, and we will {treat you well} because {Yahweh promised} good concerning Israel."
Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, [that] I dwell among the tents of Kedar. Too long my soul has had its dwelling near [one who] hates peace. I [am for] peace, but when I speak, they [are] for war.
I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world.
Dear friends, I urge [you] as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your soul,
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and consuming [insect] destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
Sell your possessions and give charitable gifts. Make for yourselves money bags that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven where thief does not approach or moth destroy.
Therefore, if you have been raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not [on] the things on earth.
"For this [reason] I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat, and not for your body, what you will wear. Is your life not more than food and your body [more than] clothing?
For we know that if our earthly house, the tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made by hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed, in this [house] we groan, [because we] desire to put on our dwelling from heaven, if indeed, even [after we] have taken [it] off, we will not be found naked.read more.
For indeed we who are in this tent groan, being burdened {for this reason, that} we do not want to be unclothed, but to be clothed, in order that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has prepared us for this very [thing] [is] God, who has given us the down payment, the Spirit. Therefore, [although we are] always confident and know that [while we] are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord-- for we live by faith, not by sight-- so we are confident and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
