as it is written: God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes with which they can not see, and ears with which they can not hear.
And do this, because you know the time, that the hour has already come when we should awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed: the night is far advanced, the day draws near. Let us, therefore, put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
Wherefore, the scripture says: Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.
Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are about to die; for I have not found your works perfect before God.
Behold, I come as a thief: blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, that he may not walk naked, and that men may not see his nakedness.
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit is, willing, but the flesh is weak.
But of that day or that hour no one knows: neither the angels who are in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father. Take heed, watch and pray: for you know not when the time is. Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken, are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation:
Be sober, be watchful: for your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.
