Each of them threw his staff down. They all became large snakes. But Aaron's staff swallowed theirs. Pharaoh continued to be stubborn. Just as Jehovah had predicted, he would not listen to them.
But the Egyptian magicians did the same thing using their magic spells. So Pharaoh continued to be stubborn. He would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as Jehovah predicted.
The king saw that the frogs were dead. He became stubborn again and, just as Jehovah had said, the king would not listen to Moses and Aaron.
The magicians said to the king: It is the finger of God! (God has done this!) But the king was stubborn. Just as Jehovah predicted, the king would not listen to Moses and Aaron.
The king realized that the storm was over. He disobeyed once more. He and his officials were so stubborn that he refused to let the Israelites go. This was exactly what Jehovah said would happen.
Jehovah made the king so stubborn that he went after them. The Israelites proudly went on their way.
Jehovah added: I have seen these people. They have an iron sinew (stiff necked people) (are impossible to deal with).
Go to that land flowing with milk and honey. I will not be with you, because you are impossible to deal with. I would probably destroy you on the way. The people heard this bad news and acted as if someone had died. No one wore any jewelry. Jehovah said to Moses: Tell the Israelites: You are impossible to deal with. If I were with you, I might destroy you at any time. Take off your jewelry and I will decide what to do with you.
He prayed: Jehovah, if you really are pleased with me, I pray that you will go with us. It is true that these people are sinful and rebellious. However, please forgive our sin and let us be your people.
King Sihon of Heshbon would not allow us to pass through. Jehovah your God made him stubborn and overconfident in order to hand him over to you, as he has now done.
Understand this! It is not because you have been living right that Jehovah your God is giving you this good land to possess. You are a rebellious and impossible (stiff-necked) (stubborn) people!

Why are you as stubborn as the Egyptians and their Pharaoh were? When he did terrible (mighty) things among them did he let the Israelites go?
Jehovah sent his messengers and prophets to warn Israel and Judah: Abandon your evil ways and obey my commands. The commandments contained in the Law I gave to your ancestors. I handed them on to you through my servants the prophets. They would not obey. They were stubborn like their ancestors. They did not trust in Jehovah their God.
Do not stiffen your neck like your fathers, but yield to Jehovah and enter his sanctuary that he has consecrated from generation to generation. Serve Jehovah your God that His burning anger may turn away from you.
Zedekiah also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar made Zedekiah swear an oath of allegiance to him in God's name. But Zedekiah became so stubborn and so impossible to deal with that he refused to turn back to Jehovah the God of Israel.
Jehovah the God of their ancestors repeatedly sent messages through his prophets because he wanted to spare his people and his dwelling place. They mocked God's messengers. They despised his words, and made fun of his prophets until Jehovah became angry with his people. He could no longer heal them.
But they and our fathers, in their pride, made their necks stiff, and paid no attention to your orders. They would not obey you and gave no thought to the wonders you did among them. They became stubborn and turning away from you. They appointed a leader over themselves to take them back to their prison in Egypt. However, you are a God of forgiveness, full of grace and pity, slow to wrath and great in mercy, and you did not give them up. Even when they made for themselves a bull out of metal, and said: 'This is your God who took you up out of Egypt, and had done so much to make you angry.'
You admonished them so that you might make them come back again to your law. Their hearts were lifted up, and they paid no attention to your orders. They went against your life giving decisions and turned their backs on you. They were stubborn and did not listen.
If one wished to argue with God, he could not answer or respond to him once in a thousand times. God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Do not harden your hearts, as in the day of strife, as in the day of testing in the wilderness. Your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work. For forty years I was grieved with this generation. I said: It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.read more.
I swore to them in my anger that they should not enter into my rest.
I called you! I stretched out my hand to you. You paid no attention to me. You have ignored all my counsel. You accept no correction. I also will laugh at your trouble. I will mock when your fear comes.read more.
Trouble and distress will surround you like a whirlwind, like a great storm. You will ask for my help, but I will not listen. You will search, but you will not find me. You have no use for knowledge and you refuse to respect Jehovah. You rejected my advice and paid no attention when I warned you. Now you will get what you deserve for what you have done. Your own advice will make you sick.
He who is often reprimanded and hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
O Jehovah, why do you let us wander from your ways and become so stubborn that we are unable to respect you? Return for the sake of your servants. They are the tribes that belong to you.

They had not understood the loaves of bread. Their minds were closed.
Hearing this Jesus said: Why do you reason about having no bread? Do you not understand? Are your hearts dull of understanding?
He has blinded their eyes. He hardened their heart. Otherwise they would see with their eyes and perceive with their heart. Then they would turn and I would heal them.

The scripture says to Pharaoh: For this reason I have raised you up, that I might through you, show my power and declare my name in all the earth. He shows mercy to the one he chooses, and he allows others to be stubborn.
do not harden your hearts and be stubborn like those who tested me in the day of temptation in the wilderness.
Encourage yourselves each day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become companions (partners) with Christ if indeed we hold the beginning of our firm trust to the end. Scripture says: Today if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. Who were they who heard God and rebelled? All who came out of Egypt with Moses rebelled. With whom was he disgusted for forty years? He was disgusted and angry with those who sinned and died in the desert. Who did God swear would never enter his rest? He was talking about those who did not obey him. We see that they could not enter in on account of a lack of faith (unbelief) (disobedience).
He determines a certain day by saying through David: Today, after so long a time; just as it was said before, Today, if you will listen to his voice, do not harden your hearts. (Psalm 95:7)
The rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshipping demons, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk. Neither did they repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
