Israel, you have seen so much, but what has it meant to you? You have ears to hear with, but what have you really heard?
This people's heart has become calloused. They hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.(Septuagint)
I speak to them in illustrations (stories) (parables) (allegories), because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear. They just do not understand.

The prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled. 'By hearing, you shall hear, and shall in no way understand. By seeing you shall see, and shall in no way perceive.
So that seeing they may see and not perceive. And hearing they may hear and not understand. Otherwise they might repent and be forgiven.
He said, Go and say to this people, 'You will listen and listen, but not understand. You will look and look, but not see.
He said: You are meant to know the secrets of the kingdom of God. I speak to the rest in illustrations, that seeing they may not see and hearing they may not understand.
The heart of this people is callous and dull. Their ears are plugged. They cannot hear. They closed their eyes and cannot see. They cannot see nor hear nor understand with their heart. They should turn around and I would heal them.'
He has blinded their eyes. He hardened their heart. Otherwise they would see with their eyes and perceive with their heart. Then they would turn and I would heal them.
These people have closed their mind and are hard of hearing. They have shut their eyes so that their eyes never see. Their ears never hear. Their minds never understand. They never turn to me for healing.'
My people have lost their good sense. They do not understand.
He replied: Do you not understand? Do you not know that which goes into the man from the outside cannot defile him?
Hearing this Jesus said: Why do you reason about having no bread? Do you not understand? Are your hearts dull of understanding?
They are dogs with mighty appetites. They never have enough! They are shepherds who lack understanding. They all turn to their own way and each one seeks dishonest (unjust) gain.
You have it all backwards. A clay dish does not say to the potter, You did not make me. And should the one made say to the maker, You do not understand?
You lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of his house before you and your lords, wives and concubines. They drank wine from them. You praise the gods of silver and gold, of copper, iron, wood, and stone, which you do not see, nor hear, nor know. You have not glorified the God whose hand holds your breath and life.
I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your brides when they commit adultery. The men go out with harlots, and they sacrifice with the prostitutes. The people that do not understand will fall (be overthrown).
What is this that he says: A little while? We do not know what he says.
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments. His ways are beyond human understanding!
For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with certain of them that commend themselves. But they measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves with themselves. They are without understanding.
The bull knows its owner, and donkey knows where its master feeds it. But Israel does not know. My people do not understand!
They do not know or understand anything. Their eyes are plastered shut and cannot see. Their minds are closed and therefore they cannot understand.
They are darkened (blinded) (obscured) in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart.
We have many things to say about him and it is hard to explain it to you, for you are dull of hearing (slow to learn).
Having eyes, do you not see? Having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?
Jesus answered: Are you a teacher of Israel and you do not understand these things?
They want to be teachers of the Law even though they do not know what they are talking about. They do not understand what they say or what they confidently affirm.
