In his arrogant attitude he does not search for God. His faulty reasoning concludes: There is no God. He always succeeds at what he does. Your judgments are beyond his understanding. He scoffs at all his opponents.
God will listen and answer them. The one who has sat enthroned from the beginning will deal with them. They never change. They never respect God.
for when they knew God, they did not glorify him as God. They did not thank him and were vain in their reasoning, for their foolish hearts were darkened.
These people are stubborn and rebellious. They have turned aside and departed from me. They do not say in their hearts, to themselves: 'We should respect Jehovah our God. He sends rain at the right time, the autumn rain and the spring rain. He makes sure that we have harvest seasons.'
These people praise me with their words, said Jehovah, but they never draw near to me in their hearts (deepest thoughts). Their reverence for me comes from the repetitious tradition of men.

You say there is no need for him to give honor to his father. You have invalidated the word of God because of your tradition! You hypocrites (liars)! Isaiah's prophecy was right about you. These people honor me with their lips, but their heart (innermost thoughts) is far from me. But their worship is to no purpose, while they give as their teaching the rules (commands) of men.'
He should keep it with him. He should read from it all the days of his life. In this way he will learn to respect Jehovah his God by carefully observing all the words of this Law and these statutes. He must not think he is better than the rest of his people. He will not disobey these commandments in any way. So he and his sons will rule for a long time in Israel.

If I am full I could deny you and say, Who is Jehovah? Or if I am poor and steal, I could take God's name in vain.
Zeal for your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.

Do not swear falsely by my name, so as to profane the name of your God. I am Jehovah.
A man, whose mother was Shelomith (daughter of Dibri, from the tribe of Dan in Israel) and whose father was from Egypt, got into a quarrel with an Israelite in the camp. Respect for Jehovah means to hate evil. I hate: pride, and arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
When you mock the poor you disgrace your Maker. He who is glad at calamity will be punished.

Some commit adultery, and others seduce their daughters-in-law or their half sisters. Some of your people murder for pay. Some charge interest on the loans they make to other Israelites and get rich by taking advantage of them. They have forgotten me. The Lord Jehovah has spoken.
There was a judge in a city that did not fear God and had no respect for man.

without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, and unmerciful. They know the judgment of God, that those who commit such things are worthy of death! And yet, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who do them.
When you come together to one place, this is not to eat the Lord's Supper. For in eating every one goes ahead with out waiting for everybody else. One is hungry and another is drunk. Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the congregation of God, and shame them that have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I will not praise you!

You have no use for knowledge and you refuse to respect Jehovah. You rejected my advice and paid no attention when I warned you. Now you will get what you deserve for what you have done. Your own advice will make you sick.
These people will soon say: 'We have no king because we did not respect Jehovah. What could a king do for us anyway?'
The people of Ephraim made Jehovah bitter. He will hold them guilty of murder. Jehovah will pay them back for their insults.
All will go well with you if you honor Jehovah your God, serve him, listen to him, and obey his commands. If you and your king follow Jehovah all will be well. But if you do not listen to Jehovah but disobey his commands, he will be against you and your king. He was against your fathers because they disobeyed.
You might not faithfully obey every word of the teachings that are written in this book. You might not respect this glorious and awe inspiring name: JEHOVAH your God. If so, Jehovah will strike you and your descendants with unimaginable plagues. They will be terrible continuing plagues. They will be severe and lingering diseases.
