Then he said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken. Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?"

He said to them, "Thus it is written, for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

But the things which God announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Messiah should suffer, he thus fulfilled.

Paul, as was his custom, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Messiah had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Messiah."

He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and familiar with illness; and as one from whom men hide their face. He was despised, and we did not value him. Surely he has borne our sicknesses, and carried our pains; yet we considered him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he did not open his mouth. As a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he did not open his mouth. He was taken away by oppression and judgment; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living and stricken for the disobedience of my people? They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet the LORD was pleased to crush him and make him ill. When you make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring. He shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. After the suffering of his soul, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge shall my servant, the righteous one, make many righteous, and he will bear their iniquities. therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sins of many, and made intercession for their transgressions.

From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up."

but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them."

He told them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. And why is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be rejected?

"Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up."

He took the twelve aside, and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed. For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.

For he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, "The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise again."

But first, he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

The lord of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that they will respect him.' "But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?

He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer,

"Now my soul is troubled; and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour?' But for this cause I came to this hour.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward. And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. When they were completed, he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,

Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.

He led him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

He was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him.

But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan. You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men."

Satan entered into Judas, who was called Iscariot, who was numbered with the twelve.

After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."

I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has no hold on me.

His tail drew one third of the stars of the sky, and threw them to the earth. The dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, but the world did not recognize him.

For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.

If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

which none of the rulers of this age has understood. For had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

He came to his own, and those who were his own did not receive him.

LORD, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things that make for peace. But now, they are hidden from your eyes.

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
