Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. {Resist him}, steadfast in your faith, [because you] know the same [kinds] of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, [after you] have suffered for a short time, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, [and] establish [you].
With all vigilance, keep your heart, for from it [comes] the source of life.
Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving,
"However, {take care} for yourself and watch your inner self closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to {your grandchildren}.
I said, "I will guard my ways {that I may not sin} with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as [the] wicked [are] before me."
Stay awake and pray that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak!"
Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day [for] three years I did not stop warning each one [of you] with tears.

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men from Acacia Grove [as] spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name [was] Rahab, and {spent the night} there. The king of Jericho was told, "Look, [some] men from the {Israelites} have come here tonight to search out the land." And the king of Jericho sent [for] Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who came to you, the ones who have entered your house, for they have come to search out the whole land."
