Alas, sinful nation,People weighed down with iniquity,Offspring of evildoers,Sons who act corruptly!They have abandoned the Lord,They have despised the Holy One of Israel,They have turned away from Him.

“So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard:I will remove its hedge and it will be consumed;I will break down its wall and it will become trampled ground.

On this account the anger of the Lord has burned against His people,And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down.And the mountains quaked, and their corpses lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.For all this His anger is not spent,But His hand is still stretched out.

“The bricks have fallen down,But we will rebuild with smooth stones;The sycamores have been cut down,But we will replace them with cedars.”

I send it against a godless nationAnd commission it against the people of My furyTo capture booty and to seize plunder,And to trample them down like mud in the streets.

For he has said,“By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this,For I have understanding;And I removed the boundaries of the peoplesAnd plundered their treasures,And like a mighty man I brought down their inhabitants,

Behold, the Lord, the God of hosts, will lop off the boughs with a terrible crash;Those also who are tall in stature will be cut downAnd those who are lofty will be abased.

He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an iron axe,And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;And a little boy will lead them.

Also the cow and the bear will graze,Their young will lie down together,And the lion will eat straw like the ox.

They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west;Together they will plunder the sons of the east;They will possess Edom and Moab,And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

And their bows will mow down the young men,They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb,Nor will their eye pity children.

It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation;Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there,Nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.

But desert creatures will lie down there,And their houses will be full of owls;Ostriches also will live there, and shaggy goats will frolic there.

‘Your pomp and the music of your harpsHave been brought down to Sheol;Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath youAnd worms are your covering.’

“How you have fallen from heaven,O star of the morning, son of the dawn!You have been cut down to the earth,You who have weakened the nations!

“Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol,To the recesses of the pit.

“But you have been cast out of your tombLike a rejected branch,Clothed with the slain who are pierced with a sword,Who go down to the stones of the pitLike a trampled corpse.

“Those who are most helpless will eat,And the needy will lie down in security;I will destroy your root with famine,And it will kill off your survivors.

For the fields of Heshbon have withered, the vines of Sibmah as well;The lords of the nations have trampled down its choice clustersWhich reached as far as Jazer and wandered to the deserts;Its tendrils spread themselves out and passed over the sea.

“The cities of Aroer are forsaken;They will be for flocks to lie down in,And there will be no one to frighten them.

Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while,Our adversaries have trodden it down.

Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down,That the mountains might quake at Your presence—

When You did awesome things which we did not expect,You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence.

I will destine you for the sword,And all of you will bow down to the slaughter.Because I called, but you did not answer;I spoke, but you did not hear.And you did evil in My sightAnd chose that in which I did not delight.”

“And it shall be from new moon to new moonAnd from sabbath to sabbath,All mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the Lord.
