Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

All the people went up after him, and the people were playing on flutes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth shook at their noise.

So all the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet. For they had put Athaliah to death with the sword at the king’s house.

When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices,
And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.
