Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.

a census of the descendants of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families, by their fathers’ households,
But he did not give any to the sons of Kohath because theirs was
the service of the holy objects, which they carried on the shoulder.
At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to serve Him and to bless in His name until this day.
So Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi
who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel.
and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the
ark of the covenant of the Lord your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.
So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.”
2 Chronicles 35:3
He also said to
the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built; it will be a burden on your shoulders no longer. Now serve the Lord your God and His people Israel.
You shall have the Levites stand before Aaron and before his sons so as to present them as a wave offering to the Lord.
So the Lord said to Aaron, “You and your sons and your father’s household with you shall
bear the guilt in connection with the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the guilt in connection with your priesthood.
I will also take some of them for
priests and for Levites,” says the Lord.
For thus says the Lord, ‘
David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;
