So the angel of the Lord ordered Gad to tell David to go and set up an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is none other than the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.”

Instead, you must turn to the place Yahweh your God chooses from all your tribes to put His name for His dwelling and go there.

Gad came to David that day and said to him, “Go up and set up an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

Then Solomon began to build the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where the Lord

had appeared to his father David, at the site David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

“Since the day I brought My people Israel
out of the land of Egypt,
I have not chosen a city to build a temple in
among any of the tribes of Israel,
so that My name would be there,
and I have not chosen a man
to be ruler over My people Israel.

He abandoned the tabernacle at Shiloh,
the tent where He resided among men.

For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His home:

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain,

yet you Jews say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”

And this is the altar

Suppose you say to me: We trust in the Lord our God. Isn’t He the One whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem: You must worship at this altar in Jerusalem?’

Didn’t Hezekiah himself remove His high places and His altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, “You must worship before one altar, and you must burn incense on it”?
