David's Charge To Israel
1 David held a meeting in Jerusalem for all the leaders of Israel, the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the army units that served the king, the commanders of regiments and battalions, the officials in charge of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, the palace officials, the soldiers, and the fighting men.
1 And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
1 Now (A)David assembled at Jerusalem all the officials of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the commanders of the divisions that served the king, and the commanders of thousands, and the commanders of hundreds, and the overseers of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, with the officials and (B)the mighty men, even all the valiant men.
1 David assembled all the leaders of Israel in Jerusalem:(A) the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, along with the court officials, the fighting men,(B) and all the brave warriors.
1 David gathered together all of the leaders of Israel, the leaders of the tribes, division officers who reported to the king, the commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, the supervisors of the property and livestock that belonged to the king and to his sons, along with all of the officers of the palace, the elite forces, and all of the soldiers.
2 King David stood there and said: Listen to me relatives (brothers and sisters) and subjects. I had my heart set on building the Temple where the Ark of Jehovah's Covenant could be placed. This Temple will be a stool for our God's feet, and I have made preparations to build it.
2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
2 Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Listen to me, my brethren and my people; I (C)had (a)intended to build a (b)permanent home for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for (D)the footstool of our God. So I had made preparations to build it.
2 Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the Lord’s covenant(C) and as a footstool(D) for our God. I had made preparations to build,
2 King David rose to his feet and said, "My fellow citizens, may I have your attention. I intended to build a house of rest for the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, for a footstool of our God, so I began preparations for its construction.
3 However God told me: 'You must not build the Temple for my name because you have fought wars and caused bloodshed.'
3 But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
3 But God said to me, ‘(E)You shall not build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
3 but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’(E)
3 But then God told me, "You will not build a temple to my name, because you are a man of war, and you have committed bloodshed.'
4 Yet, from my entire family Jehovah God of Israel chose me to be king of Israel for as long as I live. He had chosen the tribe of Judah to lead Israel. From the families of Judah he chose my father's family. From among my father's sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
4 Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
4 Yet, the Lord, the God of Israel, (F)chose me from all the house of my father to be king over Israel (G)forever. For (H)He has chosen Judah to be a leader; and (I)in the house of Judah, my father’s house, and among the sons of my father He took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.
4 “Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of all my father’s household(F) to be king over Israel forever.(G) For He chose Judah as leader,(H) and from the house of Judah, my father’s household, and from my father’s sons,(I) He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
4 Nevertheless, the LORD God of Israel chose me from my entire ancestral household to be king over Israel forever, since he had chosen Judah as Commander-in-Chief. In my ancestor Judah's household, from my father's household, and from among my father's sons it pleased him to make me king over all of Israel.
5 Of all my sons, for Jehovah has given me many sons, he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of Jehovah's kingdom to rule Israel.
5 And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
5 (J)Of all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons), (K)He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.
5 And out of all my sons(J)—for the Lord has given me many sons—He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingdom over Israel.(K)
5 "Now out of all of my sons (since the LORD has given me many of them), he has selected my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD, ruling over Israel.
6 He told me: 'Your son Solomon will build my Temple and my courtyards because I have chosen him to be my son. I will be his father.
6 And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
6 He said to me, ‘Your son (L)Solomon is the one who shall build My house and My courts; for I have chosen him to be a son to Me, and I will be a father to him.
6 He said to me,(L) ‘Your son Solomon is the one who is to build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his father.
6 He told me,
7 I will establish his kingdom for a very long time if he will remain determined to obey my commands and laws, as he is doing today.'
7 Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
7 I will establish his kingdom forever (M)if he resolutely performs My commandments and My ordinances, as (c)is done now.’
7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he perseveres in keeping My commands and My ordinances as he is today.’(M)
7 "I chose your son Solomon to be the one who will construct my Temple and my courts, because I have chosen him to be a son to me, and I will be a father to him. I will establish his kingdom forever, assuming he remains strongly committed to carry out my commandments and ordinances, as he is doing today.'
8 I order you in the sight of Israel, Jehovah's congregation. And as our God listens dedicate your lives to doing everything Jehovah your God has commanded. Then you will be able to possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance for your descendants.
8 Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
8 So now, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek after all the commandments of the Lord your God so that you may possess the good land and bequeath it to your sons after you forever.
8 “So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, observe and follow all the commands of the Lord your God so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants forever.
8 Therefore, in the presence of all of Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and while our God is listening, observe and search through all of the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may continue to possess this good land, leaving it for an inheritance forever to benefit your descendants who come after you."
David's Charge To Solomon
9 You my son Solomon, learn to know your father's God. Serve Jehovah wholeheartedly and willingly because he searches every heart and understands every thought we have. If you dedicate your life to serving him, he will accept you. On the other hand if you abandon him, he will reject you from then on.
9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
9 “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and (N)serve Him with (d)a whole heart and a willing (e)mind; (O)for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. (P)If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.
9 “As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind,(N) for the Lord searches every heart and understands the intention of every thought.(O) If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.(P)
9 "Now as for you, my son Solomon, get to know the God of your father. Serve him with a sound heart and a devoted soul, because the LORD is searching every heart, every plan and thought. He will be found by you, assuming you are seeking him, but if you abandon him, he will abandon you forever.
10 So be careful, because Jehovah has chosen you to build the Temple as his holy place. Be strong, and do it.
10 Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
10 Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; (Q)be courageous and act.”
10 Realize now that the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”(Q)
10 So keep watching, because the LORD has chosen you to build the Temple of his sanctuary. So be strong, and get to work!"
