Concerning Head Coverings In Worship

1 Be followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

1 (A)Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

1 Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.(A)

1 Imitate me, as I do the Messiah.

Instructions About Head Coverings

2 Now I praise you, brethren, because you remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

2 Now (B)I praise you because you (C)remember me in everything and (D)hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you.

2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

2 Now I praise you(a) because you always remember me and keep the traditions(B) just as I delivered(C) them to you.

2 I praise you for remembering everything I told you and for holding to the traditions that I passed on to you.

3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

3 But I want you to understand that (a)Christ is the (E)head of every man, and (F)the man is the head of a woman, and God is the (G)head of (b)Christ.

3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

3 But I want you to know that Christ is the head(D) of every man, and the man is the head of the woman,(b)(E) and God is the head of Christ.(F)

3 Now I want you to realize that the Messiah is the head of every man, and man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of the Messiah.

4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.

4 Every man who has something on his head while praying or (H)prophesying disgraces his head.

4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

4 Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors(G) his head.

4 Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head,

5 But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head: for that is one and the same as if she were shaven.

5 But every (I)woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman (c)whose head is (J)shaved.

5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since that is one and the same as having her head shaved.(H)

5 and every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, which is the same as having her head shaved.

6 For if the woman is not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

6 For if a woman does not cover (d)her head, let her also (e)have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to (f)have her hair cut off or (g)her head shaved, let her cover (h)her head.

6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

6 So if a woman’s head(c) is not covered, her hair should be cut off. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should be covered.

6 So if a woman does not cover her head, she should cut off her hair. If it is a disgrace for a woman to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her own head.

7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

7 For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the (K)image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

7 A man, in fact, should not cover his head, because he is God’s image(I) and glory,(J) but woman is man’s glory.

7 A man should not cover his head, because he exists as God's image and glory. But the woman is man's glory.

8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.

8 For (L)man (i)does not originate from woman, but woman from man;

8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.

8 For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man.(K)

8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;

9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

9 for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but (M)woman for the man’s sake.

9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

9 And man was not created for woman, but woman for man.

9 and man was not created for woman, but woman for man.

10 For this cause ought the woman to have authority on her head because of the angels.

10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

10 This is why a woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

10 This is why a woman should have authority over her own head: because of the angels.

11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

11 However, in the Lord, neither is woman (j)independent of man, nor is man (k)independent of woman.

11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman.

11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man of woman.

12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things are of God.

12 For as the woman (l)originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and (N)all things (m)originate (O)from God.

12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

12 For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, and all things come from God.(L)

12 For as woman came from man, so man comes through woman. But everything comes from God.

13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

13 (P)Judge (n)for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

13 Judge(M) for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

13 Decide for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

14 Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man has long hair, it is a shame unto him?

14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him,

14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

14 Does not even nature itself teach(N) you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace(O) to him,

14 Nature itself teaches you neither that it is disgraceful for a man to have long hair

15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

15 but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory?(P) For her hair is given to her(d) as a covering.

15 nor that hair is a woman's glory, since hair is given as a substitute for coverings.

16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

16 But if one is inclined to be contentious, (Q)we have no (o)other practice, nor have (R)the churches of God.

16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

16 But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other(e) custom, nor do the churches of God.

16 But if anyone wants to argue about this, we do not have any custom like this, nor do any of God's churches.

Improper Conduct At The Lord's Supper

17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse.

17 But in giving this instruction, (S)I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.

17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.

17 Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.

17 Now I am not praising you in giving you the following instructions. When you gather, it is not for the better but for the worse.

18 For first of all, when you come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

18 For, in the first place, when you come together (p)as a church, I hear that (q)(T)divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it.

18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

18 For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

18 For in the first place, I hear that when you gather as a church there are divisions among you, and I partly believe it.

19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you.

19 For there (U)must also be factions among you, (V)so that those who are approved may become (r)evident among you.

19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

19 There must, indeed, be factions(Q) among you, so that those who are approved may be recognized among you.

19 Of course, there must be factions among you to show which of you are genuine!

20 When you come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.

20 Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper,

20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.

20 Therefore, when you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord’s Supper.(R)

20 When you gather in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper.

21 For in eating every one takes first his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

21 for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and (W)another is drunk.

21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

21 For at the meal, each one eats his own supper ahead of others. So one person is hungry while another gets drunk!

21 For as you eat, each of you rushes to eat his own supper, and one person goes hungry while another gets drunk.

22 What? have you not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise you the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the (X)church of God and (Y)shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall (Z)I praise you? In this I will not praise you.

22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

22 Don’t you have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this!

22 You have homes in which to eat and drink, don't you? Or do you despise God's church and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I will not praise you for this!

23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

23 For (AA)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that (AB)the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;

23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:(S) On the night when He was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread,

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you how the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a loaf of bread,

24 And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

24 gave thanks, broke it, and said,(f) “This is My body, which is(g) for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”(T)

24 gave thanks for it, and broke it in pieces, saying, "This is my body that is for you. Keep doing this in memory of me."

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do you, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

25 In the same way He took (AC)the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the (AD)new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

25 In the same way, after supper He also took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant(U) established by My blood.(V) Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

25 He did the same with the cup after the supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. As often as you drink from it, keep doing this in memory of me."

26 For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death till he comes.

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death (AE)until He comes.

26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death(W) until He comes.(X)

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Self-Examination

27 Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be (AF)guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy way will be guilty of sin against the body(h) and blood of the Lord.

27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the cup in an unworthy manner will be held responsible for the Lord's body and blood.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

28 But a man must (AG)examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

28 So a man should examine himself; in this way he should eat the bread and drink from the cup.

28 A person must examine himself and then eat the bread and drink from the cup,

29 For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

29 For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body,(i) eats and drinks judgment(Y) on himself.

29 because whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number (s)(AH)sleep.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

30 This is why many are sick and ill among you, and many have fallen asleep.(Z)

30 That's why so many of you are weak and sick and a considerable number are dying.

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

31 If we were properly evaluating ourselves, we would not be judged,

31 But if we judged ourselves correctly, we would not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

32 But when we are judged, we are (AI)disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with (AJ)the world.

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

32 but when we are judged,(AA) we are disciplined by the Lord, so that we may not be condemned(AB) with the world.

32 Now, while we are being judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so we won't be condemned along with the world.

33 Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait one for another.

33 So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

33 Therefore, my brothers, when you gather to eat, wait for each other.

34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that you come not together unto judgment. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

34 If anyone is (AK)hungry, let him eat (AL)at home, so that you will not come together for judgment. The remaining matters I will (AM)arrange (AN)when I come.

34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you gather together you will not come under judgment. And I will give instructions about the other matters whenever I come.(AC)

34 If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you gather it may not bring judgment on you. And when I come I will give instructions concerning the other matters.
