For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
So it will be that when the Lord has completed all His
work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, “I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the pomp of his haughtiness.”
For behold, I am
beginning to work calamity in this city which is called by My name, and shall you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment; for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares the Lord of hosts.’
For thus says the Lord, “Behold, those
who were not sentenced to drink the cup will certainly drink it, and are you the one who will be completely acquitted? You will not be acquitted, but you will certainly drink it.
Utterly slay old men, young men, maidens, little children, and women, but do not touch any man on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.” So they started with the elders who were before the temple.
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the
sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says the Lord of hosts.
and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘
We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.
And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes,
For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His
miracles were done, because they did not repent.
I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
For if the word
spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
and to Jesus, the
mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
