The Coming Apostasy

1 Howbeit, the Spirit, expressly saith - that, in later seasons, some will revolt from the faith, giving heed unto seducing spirits, and unto teachings of demons -

1 But (A)the Spirit explicitly says that (B)in later times some will (a)fall away from the faith, paying attention to (C)deceitful spirits and (D)doctrines of demons,

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

1 Now the Spirit(A) explicitly says that in later times(B) some will depart from the faith,(C) paying attention to deceitful spirits(D) and the teachings of demons,(E)

1 Now the Spirit says clearly that in the last times some people will abandon the faith by following deceitful spirits, the teachings of demons,

2 in hypocrisy, speaking falsehood, of demons cauterised in their own conscience, -

2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars (E)seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

2 through the hypocrisy(F) of liars whose consciences(G) are seared.

2 and the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences have been burned by a hot iron.

3 Forbidding to marry, commanding to abstain from foods which, God, created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and personally know the truth;

3 men who (F)forbid marriage and advocate (G)abstaining from foods which (H)God has created to be (I)gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

3 They forbid marriage(H) and demand abstinence(I) from foods that God created(J) to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth.

3 They will try to stop people from marrying and from eating certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

4 Because, every creature of God, is good, and nothing to be cast away, if, with thanksgiving, it be received, -

4 For (J)everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is (K)received with gratitude;

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

4 For everything created by God is good,(K) and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,(L)

4 For everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

5 For it is hallowed by the word of God and intercession,

5 for it is sanctified by means of (L)the word of God and prayer.

5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

5 since it is sanctified by the word of God(M) and by prayer.

5 because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

The Good Servant Of Christ

6 These things, submitting to the brethren, thou shall be, a noble, minister of Christ Jesus, nourishing thyself with the words of the faith, and of the noble teaching which thou hast closely studied.

6 In pointing out these things to (M)the brethren, you will be a good (N)servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the (b)(O)sound doctrine which you (P)have been following.

6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

6 If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith(N) and the good teaching that you have followed.(O)

6 If you continue to point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good servant of the Messiah Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the healthy teaching that you have followed closely.

7 But, from the profane and old-wives' stories, excuse thyself, and be training thyself unto godliness;

7 But (c)have nothing to do with (Q)worldly (R)fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of (S)godliness;

7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

7 But have nothing to do with irreverent and silly myths.(P) Rather, train yourself in godliness,(Q)

7 Do not have anything to do with godless myths and fables of old women. Instead, train yourself to be godly.

8 For, the bodily training, for little, is profitable, whereas, godliness, for all things is profitable, - having, promise, of life - the present and the coming.

8 for (T)bodily discipline is only of little profit, but (U)godliness is profitable for all things, since it (V)holds promise for the (W)present life and also for the life to come.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

8 forthe training of the body has a limited benefit,(R)but godliness is beneficial in every way,since it holds promise for the present lifeand also for the life to come.(S)

8 Physical exercise is of limited value, but Godliness is very dear, a pledge of life, both there and here.

9 Faithful, the saying! and, of all acceptance, worthy;

9 (X)It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance.

9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

9 This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.(T)

9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves complete acceptance.

10 For, to this end, are we toiling and contending, because we have set our hope on a Living God, Who is Saviour of all men - specially, of such as believe.

10 For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed (Y)our hope on (Z)the living God, who is (AA)the Savior of all men, especially of believers.

10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

10 In fact, we labor and strive(a) for this, because we have put our hope in the living God,(U) who is the Savior(V) of everyone,(W) especially of those who believe.

10 To this end we work hard and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, that is, of those who believe.
