There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
2 Chronicles 6:11
There I have set the ark
in which is the covenant of the Lord, which He made with the sons of Israel.”
When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses
the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.
Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets which were written on both sides; they were written on one side and the other.
Now the Lord said to Moses, “Cut out for yourself
two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.
Then he took
the testimony and put it into the ark, and attached the poles to the ark, and put the mercy seat on top of the ark.
I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.’
having a golden
altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod which budded, and the tables of the covenant;
if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;
Then he took
the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, “ All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”
These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He had made with them at Horeb.
Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the
mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.
