I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
But they kept silent, for on the way
they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, *came up to Jesus, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You.”
And there arose also
a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.
devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;
from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain,
3 John 1:8
Therefore we ought to
support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth.
“ He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
“ Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
and said to them,
“ Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great.”
They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues,
An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.
saying, “Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
