The Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, they are

an obstinate people.

Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are

an obstinate people, and I might destroy you on the way.”

He said, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though

the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.”

“Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.

For I know your rebellion and your stubbornness; behold, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against the Lord; how much more, then, after my death?

Now do not stiffen your neck like your fathers, but yield to the Lord and enter His sanctuary which He has consecrated forever, and serve the Lord your God, that His burning anger may turn away from you.

“But they, our fathers, acted arrogantly;
They

became stubborn and would not listen to Your commandments.

Do not lift up your horn on high,

Do not speak with insolent pride.’”

And not be like their fathers,
A stubborn and rebellious generation,
A generation that did not prepare its heart
And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

“Because I know that you are

obstinate,

And your neck is an iron sinew
And your forehead bronze,

Yet they did not listen or incline their ears, but stiffened their necks in order not to listen or take correction.

I am sending you to them who are

stubborn and obstinate children, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’

But they refused to pay attention and

turned a stubborn shoulder and

stopped their ears from hearing.

But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

“However, You bore with them for many years,
And admonished them by Your Spirit through Your prophets,
Yet they would not give ear.
Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

But they rebelled
And grieved His Holy Spirit;
Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy,
He fought against them.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

“The patriarchs became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt. Yet God was with him,

So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
