And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
God said further to Abraham, “Now as for you,
you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.
For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
How then was it credited? While he was
circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;
Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.
And every male among you who is
eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.
Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised.
Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and
the Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Abraham became the father of Isaac. The sons of Isaac were Esau and Israel.
was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
For this is the word of promise: “
At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.”
Now the Lord saw that Leah was
unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
Now when Rachel saw that
she bore Jacob no children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, “ Give me children, or else I die.”
Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to
Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor.
Now these are the
names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; they came each one with his household:

These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the
patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.
Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him,
The covenant which He made with Abraham,
oath to Isaac.
And it happened that on
the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zacharias, after his father.
