Thus Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord destroyed before the sons of Israel.
It will surely
Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst.
You shall consume all the peoples whom the Lord your God will deliver to you;
your eye shall not pity them, nor shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
beware that you are not ensnared
to follow them, after they are destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?’
know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to
drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
Therefore I also said, ‘
I will not drive them out before you; but they will become as thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you.’”

and they may come to their senses and escape from

But the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of these cities, because the Canaanites persisted in living in that land.
