The Golden Calf

⁹ And LORD said to Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may grow hot against them, and that I may consume them. And I will make of thee a great nation. ¹¹ And Moses besought LORD his God, and said, LORD, why does thy wrath grow hot against thy people, whom thou have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

Deuteronomy 9:14

Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven, and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
