And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
Now the Lord said to Moses, “Cut out for yourself
two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.
When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses
the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.
The tablets were God’s work, and the writing was God’s writing engraved on the tablets.
So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is,
the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.’

ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,
