A Prophecy Aimed At The King Of Tyre
2 Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, This is what the Lord has said: Because your heart has been lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I am seated on the seat of God in the heart of the seas; but you are man and not God, though you have made your heart as the heart of God:
2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
2 “Son of man, say to the (a)leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord (b)God,“Because your heart is lifted upAnd you have said, ‘(A)I am a god,I sit in the seat of (c)godsIn the heart of the seas’;Yet you are a (B)man and not God,Although you make your heart like the heart of God—
2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says:Your(a) heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god;(A)I sit in the seat of godsin the heart of the sea.’Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heartas that of a god.
2 "Son of Man, tell Tyre's Commander-in-Chief, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Because your heart is arrogant, and because you keep saying, "I have taken my seat, I am a god, seated in God's seat right in the middle of the sea,' and because you're a man, and not a god, even though you pretend that you have a god-like heart"
4 By your wisdom and deep knowledge you have got power for yourself, and put silver and gold in your store-houses:
4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
4 “By your wisdom and understandingYou have acquired (D)riches for yourselfAnd have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.
4 By your wisdom and understandingyou have acquired wealth for yourself. You have acquired gold and silverfor your treasuries.(C)
4 Your wisdom and understanding brought you phenomenal wealth. You've brought gold and silver into your treasuries.
5 By your great wisdom and by your trade your power is increased, and your heart is lifted up because of your power:
5 By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:
5 “By your great wisdom, by your (E)tradeYou have increased your richesAnd your (F)heart is lifted up because of your riches—
5 By your great skill in tradingyou have increased your wealth, but your heart has become proudbecause of your wealth.”
5 By your great wisdom, by your skills in trading you have amassed wealth for yourself and your heart has become arrogant because of your wealth."
6 For this cause the Lord has said: Because you have made your heart as the heart of God,
6 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;
6 Therefore this is what the Lord God says:Because you regard your heart as that of a god,
6 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: "Because you've made your heart like that of God
7 See, I am sending against you strange men, feared among the nations: they will let loose their swords against your bright wisdom, they will make your glory a common thing.
7 Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.
7 Therefore, behold, I will bring (H)strangers upon you,The (I)most ruthless of the nations. And they will draw their swordsAgainst the beauty of your wisdomAnd defile your splendor.
7 I am about to bring strangers against you, ruthless men from the nations. They will draw their swordsagainst your magnificent wisdomand will defile your splendor.(D)
7 Therefore, look! I'm bringing foreigners in your direction, the most terrifying of nations! They will direct their violence against the grandeur that you've created by your wisdom.
8 They will send you down to the underworld, and your death will be the death of those who are put to the sword in the heart of the seas.
8 They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.
8 ‘They will bring you down to the pit,And you will die the (J)death of those who are slainIn the heart of the seas.
8 They'll send you down to the Pit, and you'll die defiled in the depths of the sea.
9 Will you say, in the face of those who are taking your life, I am God? but you are man and not God in the hands of those who are wounding you.
9 Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.
9 ‘Will you still say, “I am a god,”In the presence of your slayer,Though you are a man and not God,In the hands of those who wound you?
9 Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’in the presence of those who kill(b) you?Yet you will be only a man, not a god,in the hands of those who kill you.
9 Is that when you'll say, "I'm God' to the face of those who will be killing you? After all, you're a man, and have never been a god, especially when you're under the control of those who will defile you!
10 Your death will be the death of those who are without circumcision, by the hands of men from strange lands: for I have said it, says the Lord.
10 Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
10 ‘You will die the death of the (K)uncircumcisedBy the hand of strangers,For I have spoken!’ declares the Lord God!”’”
10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised(F)at the hands of strangers.(G)For I have spoken. This is the declaration of the Lord God.
10 You will die a death fit for the uncircumcised at the hand of foreigners." "for I have said it will be so,' declares the LORD."
A Lament For Tyre's King
12 Son of man, make a song of grief for the king of Tyre, and say to him, This is what the Lord has said: You are all-wise and completely beautiful;
12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
12 “Son of man, (L)take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God,“You (d)had the seal of perfection,Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
12 “Son of man, lament(H) for the king of Tyre and say to him: This is what the Lord God says:You were the seal(c) of perfection,(d)full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.(I)
12 "Son of Man, start singing this lamentation for the king of Tyre. Tell him, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "You served as my model, my example of complete wisdom and perfect beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every stone of great price was your clothing, the sardius, the topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the emerald and the carbuncle: your store-houses were full of gold, and things of great price were in you; in the day when you were made they were got ready.
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
13 “You were in (M)Eden, the garden of God;(N)Every precious stone was your covering:The (O)ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your (e)(P)settings and (f)sockets,Was in you.On the day that you were createdThey were prepared.
13 You were in Eden,(J) the garden of God.Every kind of precious stone covered you:carnelian, topaz, and diamond,(e)beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire,(f) turquoise(g) and emerald.(h)Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold;(K)they were prepared on the day you were created.
13 You used to be in Eden God's paradise! You wore precious stones for clothing: ruby, topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and carbuncle. Your settings were crafted in gold, along with your engravings. On the day of your creation they had been prepared!
14 I gave you your place with the winged one; I put you on the mountain of God; you went up and down among the stones of fire.
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
14 “You were the (Q)anointed cherub who (g)covers,And I placed you there. You were on the holy (R)mountain of God;You walked in the midst of the (S)stones of fire.
14 You were an anointed guardian cherub,(L)for(i) I had appointed you.You were on the holy mountain of God;you walked among the fiery stones.
14 "You were the anointed cherub; having been set in place on the holy mountain of God, you walked in the midst of fiery stones.
15 There has been no evil in your ways from the day when you were made, till sin was seen in you.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
15 “You were (T)blameless in your waysFrom the day you were createdUntil (U)unrighteousness was found in you.
15 From the day you were createdyou were blameless in your waysuntil wickedness was found in you.
15 You were blameless in your behavior from the day you were created until wickedness was discovered in you.
16 Through all your trading you have become full of violent ways, and have done evil: so I sent you out shamed from the mountain of God; the winged one put an end to you from among the stones of fire.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
16 “By the (V)abundance of your trade(h)You were internally (W)filled with violence,And you sinned; Therefore I have cast you as profaneFrom the mountain of God.And I have destroyed you, O (i)covering cherub,From the midst of the stones of fire.
16 Through the abundance of your trade, you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I expelled you in disgracefrom the mountain of God,and banished you, guardian cherub,(j)from among the fiery stones.
16 Since your vast business dealings filled you with violent intent from top to bottom, you sinned, so I cast you away as defiled from the mountain of God. I destroyed you, you guardian cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.
17 Your heart was lifted up because you were beautiful, you made your wisdom evil through your sin: I have sent you down, even to the earth; I have made you low before kings, so that they may see you.
17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your (X)beauty; You (Y)corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.I cast you to the ground;I put you before (Z)kings,That they may see you.
17 Your heart became proud because of your beauty;(M)For the sake of your splendoryou corrupted your wisdom. So I threw you down to the earth;I made you a spectacle before kings.
17 Your heart grew arrogant because of your beauty; you annihilated your own wisdom because of your splendor. Then I threw you to the ground in the presence of kings, giving them a good look at you!
18 By all your sin, even by your evil trading, you have made your holy places unclean; so I will make a fire come out from you, it will make a meal of you, and I will make you as dust on the earth before the eyes of all who see you.
18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
18 “By the multitude of your iniquities,In the unrighteousness of your tradeYou profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought (AA)fire from the midst of you;It has consumed you,And I have turned you to (AB)ashes on the earthIn the eyes of all who see you.
18 You profaned your sanctuariesby the magnitude of your iniquitiesin your dishonest trade. So I made fire come from within you,and it consumed you.(N)I reduced you to ashes on the groundin the sight of everyone watching you.
18 By all of your iniquity and unrighteous businesses you defiled your sanctuaries, so I'm going to bring out fire from within you and burn you to ashes on the earth before the whole watching world!
19 All who have knowledge of you among the peoples will be overcome with wonder at you: you have become a thing of fear, and you will never be seen again.
19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
19 “All who know you among the peoplesAre appalled at you;You have become (j)(AC)terrifiedAnd you will cease to be (AD)forever.”’”
19 All those who know you among the nationsare appalled at you.You have become an object of horrorand will never exist again.”(O)
19 Everyone who knows you throughout all the nations will be appalled at your calamity and you will no longer exist forever."'"

25 Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.

26 And they will be safe there, building houses and planting vine-gardens and living without fear; when I have sent my punishments on all those who put shame on them round about them; and they will be certain that I am the Lord their God.
26 And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.
