1 And he said to me, Son of man, take this roll for your food, and go and say my words to the children of Israel.

1 Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; (A)eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”

1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.

1 He said to me: “Son of man, eat what you find here. Eat this scroll,(A) then go and speak to the house of Israel.”

1 Then he told me, "Son of Man, eat! Eat what you see this scroll and then go talk to the house of Israel."

2 And, on my opening my mouth, he made me take the roll as food.

2 So I (B)opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll.

2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

2 So I opened my mouth, and He fed me the scroll.

2 So I opened my mouth and he fed me the scroll.

3 And he said to me, Son of man, let your stomach make a meal of it and let your inside be full of this roll which I am giving you. Then I took it, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth.

3 He said to me, “Son of man, feed your stomach and (C)fill your (a)body with this scroll which I am giving you.” Then I (D)ate it, and it was sweet as (E)honey in my mouth.

3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

3 “Son of man,” He said to me, “eat(a) and fill your stomach with this scroll I am giving you.” So I ate it,(B) and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.(C)

3 Then he told me, "Son of Man, fill your stomach and digest this scroll that I'm giving you." So I ate it, and it was like sweet honey in my mouth.

4 And he said to me, Son of man, go now to the children of Israel, and say my words to them.

4 Then He said to me, “Son of man, (b)go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them.

4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

4 Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak My words to them.

4 Then he told me, "Son of Man, go to the house of Israel and tell them what I have to say to them,

5 For you are not sent to a people whose talk is strange and whose language is hard, but to the children of Israel;

5 For (F)you are not being sent to a people of (c)(G)unintelligible speech or difficult language, but to the house of Israel,

5 For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel;

5 For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech or difficult language but to the house of Israel.

5 because you're not going to a people whose speech you cannot understand or whose language is difficult to speak. Instead, you're going to the house of Israel.

6 Not to a number of peoples whose talk is strange and whose language is hard and whose words are not clear to you. Truly, if I sent you to them they would give ear to you.

6 nor to many peoples of (d)unintelligible speech or difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. (e)But I have sent you to them (f)who should listen to you;

6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.

6 You are not being sent to many peoples of unintelligible speech or difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. No doubt, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you.(D)

6 This isn't a large group of people whose speech is unintelligible to you or whose language is difficult for you to comprehend. Frankly, if I had sent you to that kind of people, they would certainly have listened to you!

7 But the children of Israel will not give ear to you; for they have no mind to give ear to me: for all the children of Israel have a hard brow and a stiff heart.

7 yet the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, since they are (H)not willing to listen to Me. Surely the whole house of Israel is (g)stubborn and obstinate.

7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

7 But the house of Israel will not want to listen to you because they do not want to listen to Me.(E) For the whole house of Israel is hardheaded and hardhearted.

7 But the house of Israel won't listen to you, since they weren't willing to listen to me. That's because the entire house of Israel is hard-headed and hard-hearted.

8 See, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your brow hard against their brows.

8 Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.

8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads.

8 Look, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.(F)

8 So pay attention! I'm going to make you just as obstinate and unyielding as they are.

9 Like a diamond harder than rock I have made your brow: have no fear of them and do not be overcome by their looks, for they are an uncontrolled people.

9 Like (h)emery harder than flint I have made your forehead. Do not be afraid of them or be dismayed before them, though they are a rebellious house.”

9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

9 I have made your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them or discouraged by the look on their faces, even though they are a rebellious house.”

9 I'm making you harder than flint like diamond! So you are not to fear them or be intimidated by how they look at you, since they're a rebellious group."

10 Then he said to me, Son of man, take into your heart all my words which I am about to say to you, and let your ears be open to them.

10 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, take into your heart all My (I)words which I will speak to you and listen (i)closely.

10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.

10 Next He said to me: “Son of man, listen carefully to all My words that I speak to you and take them to heart.

10 Next, he told me, "Son of Man, take to heart every word that I'm telling you. Listen carefully,

11 And go now to those who have been taken away as prisoners, to the children of your people, and say to them, This is what the Lord has said; if they give ear or if they do not.

11 (j)Go to the exiles, to the sons of your people, and speak to them and tell them, whether they listen or (k)not, ‘Thus says the Lord (l)God.’”

11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

11 Go to your people, the exiles, and speak to them. Tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says,’ whether they listen or refuse to listen.”(G)

11 then go immediately to the exiles; that is, to your people's descendants, and tell them, "This is what the Lord GOD says"' whether they listen or not."

12 Then I was lifted up by the wind, and at my back the sound of a great rushing came to my ears when the glory of the Lord was lifted up from his place.

12 Then the (J)Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a great (K)rumbling sound behind me, “Blessed be the glory of the Lord (m)in His place.”

12 Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.

12 The Spirit then lifted me up,(H) and I heard a great rumbling sound behind me—praise the glory of the Lord in His place!—

12 Then the Spirit lifted me up and I heard a great earthquake behind me and the glory of the LORD arose from his place,

13 And there was the sound of the wings of the living beings touching one another, and the sound of the wheels at their side, the sound of a great rushing.

13 And I heard the sound of the wings of the living beings touching one another and the sound of the (L)wheels beside them, even a great rumbling sound.

13 I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.

13 with the(b) sound of the living creatures’ wings brushing against each other(I) and the sound of the wheels beside them,(J) a great rumbling sound.

13 accompanied by the sound of the wings of the living creatures gently touching each other and with the sound of the wheels emanating from the front, accompanied by a great earthquake.

14 And the wind, lifting me up, took me away: and I went in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong on me.

14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away; and I went embittered in the rage of my spirit, and (M)the hand of the Lord was strong on me.

14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I left in bitterness and in an angry spirit, and the Lord’s hand was on me powerfully.(K)

14 Then the Spirit lifted me up and carried me away. I went bitterly with an angry attitude as the hand of the LORD rested on me.

15 Then I came to those who had been taken away as prisoners, who were at Telabib by the river Chebar, and I was seated among them full of wonder for seven days.

15 Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the river Chebar at Tel-abib, and I sat there (N)seven days where they were living, causing consternation among them.

15 Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

15 I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were living by the Chebar Canal, and I sat there among them stunned for seven days.(L)

15 I came to the exiles at Tel-abib by the Chebar River and sat down among them for seven days, appalled.

Ezekiel As A Watchman

16 And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

16 (O)At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

16 And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

16 Now at the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me:(M)

16 At the end of the seven days, this message from the LORD came to me:

17 Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the children of Israel: so give ear to the word of my mouth, and give them word from me of their danger.

17 “Son of man, I have appointed you a (P)watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, (Q)warn them from Me.

17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman over the house of Israel.(N) When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me.(O)

17 "Son of Man," he said, "I've appointed you to be a watchman over the house of Israel. Therefore when you hear a message that comes from me, you are to warn them for me.

18 When I say to the evil-doer, Death will certainly be your fate; and you give him no word of it and say nothing to make clear to the evil-doer the danger of his evil way, so that he may be safe; that same evil man will come to death in his evil-doing; but I will make you responsible for his blood.

18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his (R)blood I will require at your hand.

18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

18 If I say to the wicked person,(P) ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him—you don’t speak out to warn him about his wicked way in order to save his life—that wicked person will die for his iniquity. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.

18 "So when I say to a wicked person, "You're about to die,' if you don't warn or instruct that wicked person that his behavior is wicked so he can live, that wicked person will die in his sin, but I'll hold you responsible for his death.

19 But if you give the evil-doer word of his danger, and he is not turned from his sin or from his evil way, death will overtake him in his evil-doing; but your life will be safe.

19 Yet if you have (S)warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have (T)delivered yourself.

19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

19 But if you warn a wicked person and he does not turn from his wickedness or his wicked way, he will die for his iniquity, but you will have saved your life.(Q)

19 If you warn the wicked person, and he doesn't repent of his wickedness or of his wicked behavior, he'll die in his sin, but you will have saved your own life.

20 Again, when an upright man, turning away from his righteousness, does evil, and I put a cause of falling in his way, death will overtake him: because you have given him no word of his danger, death will overtake him in his evil-doing, and there will be no memory of the upright acts which he has done; but I will make you responsible for his blood.

20 Again, (U)when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I place an (V)obstacle before him, he will die; since you have not warned him, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.

20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

20 Now if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,(R) and I put a stumbling block in front of him, he will die.(S) If you did not warn him, he will die because of his sin and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.

20 "When a righteous man abandons his righteousness to practice unrighteousness, I'll set a stumbling block before him. He'll die. If you don't warn him, he'll die in his sin and the righteous deeds that he had practiced won't be remembered, but you'll be held responsible for his death.

21 But if you say to the upright man that he is not to do evil, he will certainly keep his life because he took note of your word; and your life will be safe.

21 However, if you have (W)warned (n)the righteous man that the righteous should not sin and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; and you have delivered yourself.”

21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

21 But if you warn the righteous person that he should not sin, and he does not sin, he will indeed live because he listened to your warning, and you will have saved your life.”

21 If you warn the righteous person, so that he doesn't commit sin, then he'll live, since he had been warned. And you will have saved your life."

Ezekiel Will Be Unable To Talk

22 And the hand of the Lord was on me there; and he said, Get up and go out into the valley and there I will have talk with you.

22 The hand of the Lord was on me there, and He said to me, “Get up, go out to the plain, and there I will (X)speak to you.”

22 And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.

22 Then the hand of the Lord was on me there, and He said to me, “Get up, go out to the plain,(T) and I will speak with you there.”(U)

22 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he told me, "Get up! Go to the valley, and I'll speak with you there."

23 Then I got up and went out into the valley; and I saw the glory of the Lord resting there as I had seen it by the river Chebar; and I went down on my face.

23 So I got up and went out to the plain; and behold, the (Y)glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory which (Z)I saw by the river Chebar, and I fell on my face.

23 Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face.

23 So I got up and went out to the plain. The Lord’s glory was present there,(V) like the glory I had seen by the Chebar Canal,(W) and I fell facedown.

23 So I got up, went to the valley, and there was the glory of the LORD, standing there just like I had seen at the Chebar River. So I fell on my face.

24 Then the spirit came into me and put me on my feet; and he had talk with me and said to me, Go and keep yourself shut up inside your house.

24 The (AA)Spirit then entered me and made me stand on my feet, and He spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself up in your house.

24 Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house.

24 The Spirit entered me and set me on my feet.(X) He spoke with me and said: “Go, shut yourself inside your house.

24 The Spirit entered me, rested on me, caused me to stand on my feet, and then he spoke to me. This is what he had to say: "Go barricade yourself in your house.

25 But see, O son of man, I will put bands on you, prisoning you in them, and you will not go out among them:

25 As for you, son of man, they will (AB)put ropes on you and bind you with them so that you cannot go out among them.

25 But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them:

25 And you, son of man, they will put ropes on you(Y) and bind you with them so you cannot go out among them.

25 Now pay attention! They're going to bind you with ropes, tying you up right in their midst, so you won't be able to circulate freely among them.

26 And I will make your tongue fixed to the roof of your mouth, so that you have no voice and may not make protests to them: for they are an uncontrolled people.

26 Moreover, (AC)I will make your tongue stick to (o)the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and cannot be a man who rebukes them, for they are a rebellious house.

26 And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.

26 I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth,(Z) and you will be mute(AA) and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house.

26 Meanwhile, I'll make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you'll be mute and unable to reprove them, since they're a rebellious group.

27 But when I have talk with you I will make your mouth open, and you are to say to them, This is what the Lord has said: Let the hearer give ear; and as for him who will not, let him keep his ears shut: for they are an uncontrolled people.

27 But (AD)when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you will say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord (p)God.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; (AE)for they are a rebellious house.

27 But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.

27 But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth,(AB) and you will say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says.’ Let the one who listens, listen, and let the one who refuses, refuse—for they are a rebellious house.

27 But when I speak with you, I'll open your mouth so you can say to them, "This is what the Lord GOD says: "As for those who will listen, "Let them listen,' but as for those who refuse, "Let them refuse,' since they're a rebellious group."'"
