Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have
sworn to the Lord God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,
and I will make you swear by the Lord,
the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live,
And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to
half of my kingdom.”
For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.
And he sold
Then he said, “
Is he not rightly named Jacob, for he has supplanted me these two times? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
Then Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all his household, and his livestock and all his cattle and all his goods which he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to another land away from his brother Jacob.
that there be no
immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.
