Jacob Steals Esau's Blessing

1 It happened, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, "My son?" He said to him, "Here I am."

1 Now it came about, when Isaac was old and (A)his eyes were too dim to see, that he called his (B)older son Esau and said to him, “My son.” And he said to him, “Here I am.”

1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

1 When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could not see,(A) he called his older son Esau and said to him, “My son.”And he answered, “Here I am.”

1 Eventually, Isaac grew so old that he could not see. One day, he called his eldest son Esau. "My son," he called out to him.

2 He said, "See now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death.

2 (a)(C)Isaac said, “Behold now, I am old and I do not know the day of my death.

2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

2 He said, “Look, I am old and do not know the day of my death.

2 "Look how old I am! I could die any day now,

3 Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison.

3 Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and (D)hunt game for me;

3 Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

3 Take your hunting gear, your quiver and bow, and go out in the field to hunt some game for me.(B)

3 so go find your weapons, take your bow and arrows, go outside, and hunt some game for me.

4 Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die."

4 and prepare a savory dish for me such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that (E)my soul may bless you before I die.”

4 And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.

4 Then make me a delicious meal that I love and bring it to me to eat, so that I can bless you before I die.”(C)

4 Then prepare some food, just the way I like it, and bring it to me so that I can eat and bless you before I die."

5 Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for game, and to bring it.

5 Rebekah was listening while Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game to bring home,

5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

5 Now Rebekah was listening to what Isaac said to his son Esau. So while Esau went to the field to hunt some game to bring in,

5 Now Rebekah overheard Isaac while he was speaking to his son Esau. When Esau had gone out to the field to hunt and bring in some game,

6 Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, "Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,

6 (F)Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Behold, I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, saying,

6 And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,

6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Listen! I heard your father talking with your brother Esau. He said,

6 Rebekah gave these instructions to her son Jacob: "Quick! Pay attention!" she said. "I heard your father talking to your brother Esau. He told him,

7 'Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death.'

7 ‘Bring me some game and prepare a savory dish for me, that I may eat, and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’

7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.

7 ‘Bring me the game and make a delicious meal for me to eat so that I can bless you in the Lord’s presence before I die.’

7 "Bring me some game and then prepare some food for me so I can eat and bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.'

8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.

8 Now therefore, my son, (G)listen to (b)me (c)as I command you.

8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.

8 Now obey every order I give you, my son.

8 So now, my son, listen to what I have to say and pay attention to what I'm about to tell you.

9 Go now to the flock, and get me from there two good kids of the goats. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves.

9 Go now to the flock and (d)bring me two choice (e)young goats from there, that I may prepare them as a savory dish for your father, such as he loves.

9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:

9 Go to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, and I will make them into a delicious meal for your father—the kind he loves.

9 Go to the flock and bring me two healthy young goats. I'll prepare some delicious food for your father, just the way he loves it.

10 You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."

10 Then you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death.”

10 And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

10 Then take it to your father to eat so that he may bless you before he dies.”

10 Then you are to take it to your father so that he can eat and bless you before he dies."

11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

11 Jacob (f)answered his mother Rebekah, “Behold, Esau my brother is a (H)hairy man and I am a smooth man.

11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:

11 Jacob answered Rebekah his mother, “Look, my brother Esau is a hairy man, but I am a man with smooth skin.(D)

11 "But look!" Jacob pointed out to his mother Rebekah, "My brother Esau is a hairy man, but I'm smooth skinned.

12 What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing."

12 (I)Perhaps my father will feel me, then I will be as a (g)deceiver in his sight, and I will bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing.”

12 My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

12 Suppose my father touches me. Then I will be revealed to him as a deceiver and bring a curse rather than a blessing on myself.”

12 My father might touch me and he'll realize that I'm deceiving him. Then, I'll bring a curse on myself instead of a blessing."

13 His mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me."

13 But his mother said to him, “Your curse be on me, my son; only (J)obey my voice, and go, get them for me.”

13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

13 His mother said to him, “Your curse be on me, my son. Just obey me and go get them for me.”

13 "My son," she replied, "let any curse against you fall on me. Just listen to me, then go and get them for me."

14 He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved.

14 So he went and got them, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made savory food such as his father loved.

14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.

14 So he went and got the goats and brought them to his mother, and his mother made the delicious food his father loved.

14 So out he went, got them, and brought them to his mother, who then prepared some delicious food, just the way his father liked it.

15 Rebekah took the good clothes of Esau, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob, her younger son.

15 Then Rebekah took the (h)best (K)garments of Esau her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.

15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes of her older son Esau, which were in the house, and had her younger son Jacob wear them.

15 Then Rebekah took some garments that belonged to her elder son Esau the best ones available and put them on her younger son Jacob.

16 She put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck.

16 And she put the skins of the (i)young goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.

16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

16 She put the skins of the young goats on his hands and the smooth part of his neck.

16 She put some goat skins over his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.

17 She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

17 She also gave the savory food and the bread, which she had made, (j)to her son Jacob.

17 And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

17 Then she handed the delicious food and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.

17 Then she handed the delicious food and bread that she had prepared to her son Jacob,

18 He came to his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?"

18 Then he came to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”

18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?

18 When he came to his father, he said, “My father.”And he answered, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”

18 who went to his father and said, "My father"" "It's me!" he replied. "Which one are you, my son?"

19 Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me."

19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn; I have done as you told me. (L)Get up, please, sit and eat of my game, that (k)(M)you may bless me.”

19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

19 Jacob replied to his father, “I am Esau, your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game so that you may bless me.”

19 "I'm Esau, your firstborn!" Jacob told his father. "I've done what you asked, so please sit up and eat what I caught, so you can bless me."

20 Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He said, "Because the LORD your God gave me success."

20 Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “(N)Because the Lord your God caused it to happen to me.”

20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.

20 But Isaac said to his son, “How did you ever find it so quickly, my son?”He replied, “Because the Lord your God worked it out for me.”

20 "How did you get it so quickly, my son?" Isaac asked. Jacob responded, ""because the LORD your God made me successful."

21 Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not."

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come close, that (O)I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”

21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come closer so I can touch you, my son. Are you really my son Esau or not?”

21 So Isaac told Jacob, "Come here, my son, so I can feel you and know for sure whether or not you're my son Esau."

22 Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau."

22 So Jacob came close to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

22 So Jacob came closer to his father Isaac. When he touched him, he said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

22 So Jacob approached his father, who felt him and said, "It's Jacob's voice, but Esau's hands."

23 He did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esau's hands. So he blessed him.

23 He did not recognize him, because his hands were (P)hairy like his brother Esau’s hands; so he blessed him.

23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.

23 He did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he blessed him.

23 He didn't recognize Jacob, because his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau, so Isaac blessed him.

24 He said, "Are you really my son Esau?" He said, "I am."

24 And he said, “Are you really my son Esau?” And he said, “I am.”

24 And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

24 Again he asked, “Are you really my son Esau?”And he replied, “I am.”

24 He asked, "Are you really my son Esau?" "I am," Jacob replied.

25 He said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you." He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.

25 So he said, “Bring it to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, that (l)(Q)I may bless you.” And he brought it to him, and he ate; he also brought him wine and he drank.

25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.

25 Then he said, “Serve me, and let me eat some of my son’s game so that I can bless you.” Jacob brought it to him, and he ate; he brought him wine, and he drank.

25 "Come closer to me," Isaac replied, "so I can eat some of the game, my son, and then bless you." So Jacob came closer, and Isaac ate. Jacob also brought wine so his father could drink.

26 His father Isaac said to him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son."

26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Please come close and kiss me, my son.”

26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Please come closer and kiss me, my son.”

26 After this, Jacob's father Isaac told him, "Come closer and kiss me, my son."

27 He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, "Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed.

27 So he came close and kissed him; and when he smelled the smell of his garments, he (R)blessed him and said,“See, (S)the smell of my sonIs like the smell of a field (T)which the Lord has blessed;

27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

27 So he came closer and kissed him. When Isaac smelled(a) his clothes, he blessed him and said:Ah, the smell of my sonis like the smell of a fieldthat the Lord has blessed.

27 So Jacob drew closer to kiss him. When Isaac smelled the scent of his son's clothes, he blessed him and said, "How my son's scent is the fragrance of the field that the LORD has blessed.

28 God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.

28 Now may (U)God give you of the dew of heaven,And of the (V)fatness of the earth,And an abundance of grain and new wine;

28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

28 May God give to you—from the dew of the sky(E)and from the richness of the land(F)an abundance of grain and new wine.(G)

28 May the LORD grant you dew from the skies, and from the fertile land; may he grant you abundant grain and fresh wine.

29 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you."

29 (W)May peoples serve you,And nations bow down to you;(X)Be master of your brothers,(Y)And may your mother’s sons bow down to you.(Z)Cursed be those who curse you,And blessed be those who bless you.”

29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

29 May peoples serve you(H)and nations bow down to you.Be master over your brothers;may your mother’s sons bow down to you. Those who curse you will be cursed, and those who bless you will be blessed.(I)

29 May people serve and bow before you; may you be master over your brothers; may your mother's sons bow before you; may anyone who curses you be cursed; and may anyone who blesses you be blessed."

Esau Begs For Isaac's Blessing

30 It happened, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

30 Now it came about, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had hardly gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had left the presence of his father Isaac, his brother Esau arrived from the hunt.

30 Just after Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had left his father Isaac, Jacob's brother Esau returned from hunting,

31 He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me."

31 Then he also made savory food, and brought it to his father; and he said to his father, “(AA)Let my father arise and eat of his son’s game, that (m)(AB)you may bless me.”

31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.

31 He had also made some delicious food and brought it to his father. Then he said to his father, “Let my father get up and eat some of his son’s game, so that you may bless me.”

31 prepared some delicious food, brought it to his father, and told him, "Can you get up now, father, so you may eat some of your son's game and then bless me?"

32 Isaac his father said to him, "Who are you?" He said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esau."

32 Isaac his father said to him, “(AC)Who are you?” And he said, “I am your son, (AD)your firstborn, Esau.”

32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

32 But his father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?”He answered, “I am Esau your firstborn son.”

32 But his father Isaac asked him, "Who are you?" "I'm Esau, your firstborn son," he answered.

33 Isaac trembled violently, and said, "Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed."

33 Then Isaac (n)trembled violently, and said, “(AE)Who was he then that hunted game and brought it to me, so that I ate of all of it before you came, and blessed him? (AF)Yes, and he shall be blessed.”

33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

33 Isaac began to tremble uncontrollably. “Who was it then,” he said, “who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it all before you came in, and I blessed him. Indeed, he will be blessed!”

33 At this, Isaac began to tremble violently. "Who then," he asked, "hunted some game and brought it to me to eat before you arrived, so that I've blessed him? Indeed, he is blessed."

34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me, even me also, my father."

34 When Esau heard the words of his father, (AG)he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!”

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

34 When Esau heard his father’s words, he cried out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me too, my father!”(J)

34 When Esau realized what his father Isaac was saying, he began to wail out loud bitterly. "Bless me," he cried, "even me, too, my father!"

35 He said, "Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing."

35 And he said, “(AH)Your brother came deceitfully and has taken away your blessing.”

35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.

35 But he replied, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”

35 Isaac replied, "Your brother came here deceitfully and stole your blessing."

36 He said, "Isn't he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing." He said, "Haven't you reserved a blessing for me?"

36 Then he said, “(o)Is he not rightly named (AI)Jacob, for he has supplanted me these two times? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”

36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

36 So he said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob?(b)(K) For he has cheated me twice now. He took my birthright, and look, now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”

36 Then he said, "Isn't his name rightly called Jacob?" Esau asked. "He has circumvented me this second time. First, he took away my birthright, and now, look how he also stole my blessing." Then he added, "Haven't you reserved a blessing for me?"

37 Isaac answered Esau, "Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?"

37 But Isaac replied to Esau, “Behold, I have made him (AJ)your master, and all his (p)relatives I have given to him (q)as servants; and with grain and new wine I have sustained him. Now as for you then, what can I do, my son?”

37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

37 But Isaac answered Esau: “Look, I have made him a master over you, have given him all of his relatives as his servants, and have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then can I do for you, my son?”

37 In response, Isaac told Esau, "Look! I've predicted that he's going to become your master, and I've assigned all his brothers to be his servants. What then can I do for you, my son?"

38 Esau said to his father, "Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father." Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

38 Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” So Esau lifted his voice and (AK)wept.

38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

38 Esau said to his father, “Do you only have one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” And Esau wept loudly.(c)

38 Then Esau implored his father, "Don't you have even one blessing for me, my father? Bless me, even me too, my father!" Then Esau lifted his voice and wept bitterly.

39 Isaac his father answered him, "Behold, of the fatness of the earth will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above.

39 Then (AL)Isaac his father answered and said to him,“Behold, (r)(AM)away from the (s)fertility of the earth shall be your dwelling,And (t)away from the dew of heaven from above.

39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

39 Then his father Isaac answered him:Look, your dwelling place will beaway from the richness of the land, away from the dew of the sky above.

39 At this, his father Isaac replied to him, "Look! Away from the fertile land will be your dwellings; away from the dew of the skies above.

40 By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck."

40 “By your sword you shall live,And your brother (AN)you shall serve; But it shall come about (AO)when you become restless,That you will (u)break his yoke from your neck.”

40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

40 You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. But when you rebel,(d)you will break his yoke from your neck.

40 By your sword you'll live; but you'll serve your brother. But when you've become restless, you'll break off his yoke from your neck."

Esau's Anger

41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob."

41 So Esau (AP)bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said (v)to himself, “(AQ)The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

41 Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. And Esau determined in his heart: “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

41 So Esau harbored animosity toward Jacob because of the way his father had blessed him. Esau kept saying to himself, "The time to mourn for my father is very near. That's when I'm going to kill my brother Jacob."

42 The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, "Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.

42 Now when the words of her elder son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, “Behold your brother Esau is consoling himself concerning you by planning to kill you.

42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

42 When the words of her older son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she summoned her younger son Jacob and said to him, “Listen, your brother Esau is consoling himself by planning to kill you.

42 Eventually, what Rebekah's older son Esau had been saying was reported to her, so she sent for her younger son Jacob and warned him, "Look! Your brother is planning to get even by killing you.

43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.

43 Now therefore, my son, (AR)obey my voice, and arise, (w)flee to (AS)Haran, to my brother (AT)Laban!

43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

43 So now, my son, listen to me. Flee at once to my brother Laban in Haran,

43 Son, you'd better do what I say! Get up, run off to my brother Laban in Haran,

44 Stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away;

44 Stay with him (AU)a few days, until your brother’s fury (x)subsides,

44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;

44 and stay with him for a few days until your brother’s anger subsides—

44 and stay there with him a few days until your brother's fury subsides.

45 until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?"

45 until your brother’s anger (y)against you subsides and he forgets (AV)what you did to him. Then I will send and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”

45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

45 until your brother’s rage turns away from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send for you and bring you back from there. Why should I lose you both in one day?”

45 After that happens and he has forgotten what you've done to him, I'll send for you so you can return from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?"

46 Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?"

46 Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am tired of (z)living because of (AW)the daughters of Heth; (AX)if Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

46 So Rebekah said to Isaac, “I’m sick of my life because of these Hittite women.(L) If Jacob marries a Hittite woman like one of them,(e) what good is my life?”(M)

46 Rebekah also told herself, "Heth's daughters are making me tired of living. If Jacob marries one of Heth's daughters, and she turns out to be just like these other local women, what kind of life would there be left for me?"
