Jacob Flees From Laban

1 And he heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's, he has gotten all this glory.

1 Now (a)Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what belonged to our father he has made all this (b)wealth.”

1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.

1 Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying: “Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

1 Now Jacob used to listen while Laban's sons kept on complaining, "Jacob has taken over everything our father owns! He made himself wealthy from what belongs to our father!"

2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

2 Jacob saw the (c)attitude of Laban, and behold, it was not friendly toward him as formerly.

2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

2 And Jacob saw from Laban’s face that his attitude toward him was not the same.

2 Jacob also noticed that the way Laban had been looking at him wasn't as nice as it had been just two days earlier.

3 Also the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, “(A)Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and (B)I will be with you.”

3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

3 Then the Lord said to him, “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.”(A)

3 Then the LORD ordered Jacob, "Go back to your father's territory and to your relatives. I'll be with you."

4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his sheep

4 So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to his flock in the field,

4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

4 Jacob had Rachel and Leah called to the field where his flocks were.

4 Jacob sent for Rachel and Leah to come out to the field where his flock was

5 and said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.

5 and said to them, “(C)I see your father’s (d)attitude, that it is not friendly toward me as formerly, but (D)the God of my father has been with me.

5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

5 He said to them, “I can see from your father’s face that his attitude toward me is not the same, but the God of my father has been with me.

5 and informed them, "I've noticed that the way your father has been looking at us hasn't been as nice as it was just two days ago. But my father's God has been with me.

6 And ye know that with all my strength I have served your father.

6 (E)You know that I have served your father with all my strength.

6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.

6 You know that I’ve worked hard(a) for your father(B)

6 You know I've been serving your father with all my heart.

7 And your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

7 Yet your father has (F)cheated me and (G)changed my wages ten times; however, (H)God did not allow him to hurt me.

7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

7 and that he has cheated me and changed my wages 10 times. But God has not let him harm me.

7 Even so, your father has cheated me. He broke our wage agreement ten times. However, God didn't allow him to harm me.

8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the sheep bore speckled; and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then all the sheep bore ringstraked.

8 If (I)he spoke thus, ‘The speckled shall be your wages,’ then all the flock brought forth speckled; and if he spoke thus, ‘The striped shall be your wages,’ then all the flock brought forth striped.

8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.

8 If he said, ‘The spotted sheep will be your wages,’ then all the sheep were born spotted. If he said, ‘The streaked sheep will be your wages,’ then all the sheep were born streaked.(C)

8 "When Laban said, "The speckled ones will be your wages,' then all the flock gave birth to speckled ones. Then when he said, "The streaked ones will be your wages,' all the flock gave birth to streaked offspring.

9 Thus God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me.

9 Thus God has (J)taken away your father’s livestock and given them to me.

9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

9 God has taken away your father’s herds and given them to me.

9 "So God has taken away your father's livestock and has given them to me.

10 And it came to pass at the time that the sheep conceived, that I lifted up my eyes and saw in dreams, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the females were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.

10 And it came about at the time when the flock were (e)mating that I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which were (f)mating were striped, speckled, and mottled.

10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.

10 “When the flocks were breeding, I saw in a dream that the streaked, spotted, and speckled males were mating with the females.

10 As it was, when it was time for the livestock to breed, I once looked up in a dream, and the male goats that were mating with the flock were producing streaked, speckled, and spotted offspring.

11 And the angel of God spoke unto me in dreams, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

11 Then (K)the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am.’

11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

11 In that dream the Angel of God said to me, ‘Jacob!’ and I said, ‘Here I am.’

11 "Later, the angel of God spoke to me in a dream, "Jacob.' ""Here I am,' I replied

12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes and see, all the rams which leap upon the sheep are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled; for I have seen all that Laban has done unto thee.

12 He said, ‘Lift up now your eyes and see that all the male goats which are (g)mating are striped, speckled, and mottled; for (L)I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.

12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.

12 And He said, ‘Look up and see: all the males that are mating with the flocks are streaked, spotted, and speckled, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.(D)

12 ""Look around!' he said. "Go ahead, look! All the male goats have been mating with the flock, producing offspring that are streaked, speckled, and spotted, because I've been watching everything that Laban has done to you.

13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou didst anoint the pillar and where thou didst vow a vow unto me. Now arise, go out from this land and return unto the land of thy nature.

13 I am (M)the God of Bethel, where you (N)anointed a pillar, where you made a vow to Me; now arise, (h)leave this land, and (O)return to the land of your birth.’”

13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

13 I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to Me.(E) Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.’”

13 I am the God of Bethel, the place where you consecrated that stone and made a vow to me. Now get up, leave this territory, and return to your native land.'"

14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

14 Rachel and Leah said to him, “Do we still have any portion or inheritance in our father’s house?

14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

14 Then Rachel and Leah answered him, “Do we have any portion or inheritance in our father’s household?

14 Then Rachel and Leah asked him, "Do we have anything left of inheritance remaining in our father's house?

15 Are we not counted of him strangers? For he has sold us and has even devoured all our price.

15 Are we not reckoned by him as foreigners? For (P)he has sold us, and has also (i)entirely consumed (j)our purchase price.

15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.

15 Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? For he has sold us(F) and has certainly spent our money.

15 He's treating us like foreigners. He sold us and spent all of the money that rightfully belonged to us.

16 For all the riches which God has taken from our father, is ours and our son's; now then, whatever God has said unto thee, do.

16 Surely all the wealth which God has taken away from our father belongs to us and our children; now then, do whatever God has said to you.”

16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

16 In fact, all the wealth that God has taken away from our father belongs to us and to our children. So do whatever God has said to you.”

16 Furthermore, all of the wealth that God has stripped away from our father belongs to us now and to our children. So do everything that God tells you to do."

Laban And Jacob Make Peace

17 Then Jacob rose up and set his sons and his wives upon the camels;

17 Then Jacob arose and put his children and his wives upon camels;

17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

17 Then Jacob got up and put his children and wives on the camels.

17 So Jacob got up, seated his children and wives on camels,

18 and he carried away all his livestock and all his goods which he had gotten, the livestock of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, to return unto Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

18 and he drove away all his livestock and all his property which he had gathered, his acquired livestock which he had gathered in Paddan-aram, (Q)to go to the land of Canaan to his father Isaac.

18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

18 He took all the livestock and possessions he had acquired in Paddan-aram, and he drove his herds to go to the land of his father Isaac in Canaan.

18 and drove all his livestock ahead of him, with everything that belonged to him, including the livestock that he had bought and accumulated in Paddan-aram, intending to deliver them to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.

19 And Laban had gone to shear his sheep; and Rachel stole the idols of her father.

19 When Laban had gone to shear his flock, then Rachel stole the (k)(R)household idols that were her father’s.

19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

19 When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father’s household idols.(G)

19 Meanwhile, Laban had been out shearing his sheep. While he was away, Rachel stole her father's personal idols.

20 And Jacob stole away the heart of Laban the Aramean, in that he did not tell him that he fled.

20 And Jacob (l)deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him that he was fleeing.

20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

20 And Jacob deceived(b) Laban the Aramean, not telling him that he was fleeing.

20 Moreover, Jacob had deceived Laban the Aramean, because he had never told him that he was intending to leave.

21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up and passed the river and set his face toward Mount Gilead.

21 So he fled with all that he had; and he arose and crossed the Euphrates River, and set his face toward the hill country of (S)Gilead.

21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

21 He fled with all his possessions, crossed the Euphrates, and headed for(c) the hill country of Gilead.

21 Jacob fled, taking everything that he owned. He got up, crossed the river, and headed to the hill country of Gilead.

Laban Overtakes Jacob

22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled.

22 When it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled,

22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

22 On the third day Laban was told that Jacob had fled.

22 Three days later, somebody reported to Laban that Jacob had left,

23 Then he took his brethren with him and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in Mount Gilead.

23 then he took his (m)kinsmen with him and pursued him a distance of seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the hill country of Gilead.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

23 So he took his relatives with him, pursued Jacob for seven days, and overtook him at Mount Gilead.

23 so he took his relatives with him and pursued Jacob. Laban was on the road for seven days when he finally caught up with Jacob in the hill country of Gilead.

24 And God came to Laban the Aramean in dreams by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

24 (T)God came to Laban the Aramean in a (U)dream of the night and said to him, “(n)(V)Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad.”

24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

24 But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night. “Watch yourself!” God warned him. “Don’t say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”(H)

24 That night, God appeared to Laban the Aramean in a dream and warned him, "Be careful what you say to Jacob, whether it's one word good or bad."

The Search For The Stolen Idols

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren pitched in Mount Gilead.

25 Laban caught up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country, and Laban with his (o)kinsmen camped in the hill country of Gilead.

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

25 When Laban overtook Jacob, Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country, and Laban and his brothers also pitched their tents in the hill country of Gilead.

25 Meanwhile, Jacob had pitched his tent on the mountain, where Laban had caught up with him. Laban and his relatives encamped on that same mountain in the hill country of Gilead, too.

26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away my heart and carried away my daughters as captives taken with the sword?

26 Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done (p)by deceiving me and carrying away my daughters like captives of the sword?

26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

26 Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done? You have deceived me and taken my daughters away like prisoners of war!

26 Then Laban asked Jacob, "What did you do? You deceived me, carried off my daughters like you would war captives,

27 Why didst thou flee away secretly and steal away from me and didst not tell me that I might have sent thee away with mirth and with songs with tambourine and with harp?

27 Why did you flee secretly and (q)deceive me, and did not tell me so that I might have sent you away with joy and with songs, with (W)timbrel and with (X)lyre;

27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

27 Why did you secretly flee from me, deceive me, and not tell me? I would have sent you away with joy and singing, with tambourines and lyres,

27 ran away from me secretly, and stole from me by not keeping me informed. Otherwise, I could have sent you off with a party and singing, accompanied by a band playing tambourines and harps.

28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

28 and did not allow me (Y)to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now you have done foolishly.

28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

28 but you didn’t even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters. You have acted foolishly.

28 As it is, you didn't even allow me to kiss my grandchildren and daughters goodbye! You've acted foolishly.

29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt, but the God of your father spoke unto me last night, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

29 It is in (r)my power to do you harm, but (Z)the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘(s)(AA)Be careful not to speak either good or bad to Jacob.’

29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

29 I could do you great harm, but last night the God of your father said to me: ‘Watch yourself. Don’t say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’

29 It's actually in my power to do some serious evil to you, but last night the God of your father told me, "Be careful what you say to Jacob whether good or evil.'

30 And now, that thou art leaving, because thy desire is after thy father's house, yet why hast thou stolen my gods?

30 Now you have indeed gone away because you longed greatly for your father’s house; but why did you steal (AB)my gods?”

30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?

30 Now you have gone off because you long for your father—but why have you stolen my gods?”(I)

30 Now, you can go if you must go, because you certainly are longing to go to your father's house. But why did you steal my gods?"

31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid; for I said, Peradventure thou would take by force thy daughters from me.

31 Then Jacob replied to Laban, “Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force.

31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.

31 Jacob answered, “I was afraid, for I thought you would take your daughters from me by force.

31 "I was afraid," Jacob replied. "I thought you might take your daughters from me.

32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let them not live; before our brethren discern what is thine with me and take it to thee. For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

32 (AC)The one with whom you find your gods shall not live; in the presence of our (t)kinsmen (u)point out what is yours (v)among my belongings and take it for yourself.” For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

32 If you find your gods with anyone here, he will not live!(J) Before our relatives, point out anything that is yours and take it.” Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the idols.

32 Now as to your gods, if you find someone has them in their possession, he's a dead man. Take our relatives as witnesses, search through our belongings, and take whatever belongs to you that's in my possession." But Jacob didn't know that Rachel had stolen the idols.

33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents, but he did not find them. Then he went out of Leah's tent and came to Rachel's tent.

33 So Laban went into Jacob’s tent and into Leah’s tent and into the tent of the two maids, but he did not find them. Then he went out of Leah’s tent and entered Rachel’s tent.

33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

33 So Laban went into Jacob’s tent, then Leah’s tent, and then the tents of the two female slaves, but he found nothing. Then he left Leah’s tent and entered Rachel’s.

33 So Laban entered Jacob's tent, Leah's tent, and the tents of the two maid servants, but he didn't find them. Then he left Leah's tent and entered Rachel's tent.

34 Now Rachel took the images and put them in a camel's saddle and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent but did not find them.

34 Now Rachel had taken the (w)household idols and put them in the camel’s saddle, and she sat on them. And Laban felt through all the tent but did not find them.

34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

34 Now Rachel had taken Laban’s household idols, put them in the saddlebag of the camel, and sat on them. Laban searched the whole tent but found nothing.

34 Meanwhile, Rachel had taken the idols, placed them inside the saddle of her camel, and sat on them. Laban searched through the whole tent, but found nothing.

35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but did not find the images.

35 She said to her father, “Let not my lord be angry that I cannot (AD)rise before you, for the manner of women is upon me.” So he searched but did not find the (x)(AE)household idols.

35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

35 She said to her father, “Sir, don’t be angry that I cannot stand up in your presence;(K) I am having my period.” So Laban searched, but could not find the household idols.

35 Then Rachel told her father, "Sir, please don't be angry that I cannot stand up in your presence. It's that time of the month." So Laban searched for the idols, but never did find them.

Jacob's Covenant With Laban

36 Then Jacob was wroth and contended with Laban, and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? What is my sin that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

36 Then Jacob became angry and contended with Laban; and Jacob said to Laban, “What is my transgression? What is my sin that you have hotly pursued me?

36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

36 Then Jacob became incensed and brought charges against Laban. “What is my crime?” he said to Laban. “What is my sin, that you have pursued me?

36 Then Jacob got angry and started an argument with Laban. "What have I done?" he demanded. "What's my crime that would cause you to come pursue me so violently?

37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and thy brethren that they may judge between us both.

37 Though you have felt through all my goods, what have you found of all your household goods? Set it here before my (y)kinsmen and your (z)kinsmen, that they may decide between us two.

37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

37 You’ve searched all my possessions! Have you found anything of yours? Put it here before my relatives and yours, and let them decide between the two of us.

37 Now that you've searched all my belongings, what did you find that belongs to your house? Set it here in front of our relatives and we'll let them judge between us!

38 These twenty years I have been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not aborted their young, and I have not eaten the rams of thy flock.

38 These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten the rams of your flocks.

38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

38 I’ve been with you these 20 years. Your ewes and female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams from your flock.

38 Meanwhile, these past 20 years that I've been with you, your sheep and goats never had miscarriages, I never once ate any of the rams from your flock,

39 That which was torn of beasts I did not bring unto thee; I bore the sin; thou didst require of my hand that which was stolen, whether by day or by night.

39 That which was torn of beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it myself. You required it of my hand whether stolen by day or stolen by night.

39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

39 I did not bring you any of the flock torn by wild beasts; I myself bore the loss. You demanded payment from me for what was stolen by day or by night.

39 and whatever was torn by beasts, I never bothered to bring to you. Instead, I bore the losses myself. Even so, you demanded that I provide restitution for anything that was stolen, whether during the day or the night.

40 By day the drought consumed me, and by night, the frost; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

40 Thus I was: by day the (aa)heat consumed me and the frost by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

40 There I was—the heat consumed me by day and the frost by night, and sleep fled from my eyes.

40 As it was, I was attacked by drought during the day and by cold at night. I never got any decent rest.

41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters and six years for thy flock; and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

41 These twenty years I have been in your house; (AF)I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, and you (AG)changed my wages ten times.

41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

41 For 20 years I have worked in your household—14 years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks(L)—and you have changed my wages 10 times!

41 I've lived in your house these 20 years serving fourteen years for your two daughters and another six years for your flocks. During all that time you changed my wages ten times.

42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, were not with me, surely thou would send me away now empty. God has seen my affliction and the work of my hands and rebuked thee last night.

42 If (AH)the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had not been for me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. (AI)God has seen my affliction and the toil of my hands, so He (AJ)rendered judgment last night.”

42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, certainly now you would have sent me off empty-handed. But God has seen my affliction and my hard work,(d) and He issued His verdict last night.”

42 If the God of my father the God of Abraham, the God whom Isaac feared had not been with me, you would have sent me away empty handed. But God saw my misery and how hard I've worked with my own hands and he rebuked you last night."

The Agreement Between Jacob And Laban

43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these sons are my sons, and these sheep are my sheep, and all that thou seest is mine; and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their sons unto whom they have given birth?

43 Then Laban replied to Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters, and the children are my children, and (AK)the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day to these my daughters or to their children whom they have borne?

43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?

43 Then Laban answered Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters; the sons, my sons; and the flocks, my flocks! Everything you see is mine! But what can I do today for these daughters of mine or for the children they have borne?

43 But Laban answered Jacob, "These women are my daughters. These children are my children. The flocks are mine. In fact, everything that you see belongs to me. But what would I do today to my daughters and the children they have borne?

44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

44 So now come, let us (AL)make a covenant, (ab)you and I, and (AM)let it be a witness between (ac)you and me.”

44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

44 Come now, let’s make a covenant, you and I.(M) Let it be a witness between the two of us.”

44 Come, let's make a covenant just between you and me. And let it serve as a witness between you and me."

46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones and made a heap; and they ate there upon the heap.

46 Jacob said to his (ad)kinsmen, “Gather stones.” So they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there by the heap.

46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

46 Then Jacob said to his relatives, “Gather stones.” And they took stones and made a mound, then ate there by the mound.

46 Then Jacob told his relatives, "Go gather some stones." So they picked up stones and stacked them one on top of the other. Then they had a meal together there by the stack of stones.

47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed.

47 Now Laban (AO)called it (ae)Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob called it (af)Galeed.

48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

48 Laban said, “(AP)This heap is a witness between (ag)you and me this day.” Therefore it was named Galeed,

49 and Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee when we are absent one from another.

49 and (ah)(AQ)Mizpah, for he said, “May the Lord watch between (ai)you and me when we are (aj)absent one from the other.

49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

49 and also Mizpah,(f)(O) for he said, “May the Lord watch between you and me when we are out of each other’s sight.

49 It was also called Mizpah, because Laban said, "May the LORD watch between you and me, when we are estranged from each other.

50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and thee.

50 If you mistreat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us, see, (AR)God is witness between (ak)you and me.”

50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

50 If you mistreat my daughters or take other wives, though no one is with us, understand that God will be a witness between you and me.”(P)

51 Laban said to Jacob, “Behold this heap and behold the pillar which I have set between (al)you and me.

51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee;

51 Laban also said to Jacob, “Look at this mound and the marker I have set up between you and me.

51 "Look!" Laban added, "Here is the stack of stones and here is the pillar that I've set up between you and me.

52 let this heap be witness and this pillar be witness that I will not pass over this heap against thee and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar against me, for harm.

52 This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass by this heap to you for harm, and you will not pass by this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.

52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.

52 This mound is a witness and the marker is a witness that I will not pass beyond this mound to you, and you will not pass beyond this mound and this marker to do me harm.

52 This stack is a witness, and so is this pillar, reminding me not to cross beyond this stack of stones, and reminding you not to pass by this stack in my direction, intending to cause harm.

53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their fathers, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.
