The Superiority Of Jesus To Moses
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the apostle and highpriest of our profession, Jesus;
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
1 Therefore, (A)holy brethren, partakers of a (B)heavenly calling, consider Jesus, (C)the Apostle and (D)High Priest of our (E)confession;
1 Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession;(A)
1 Therefore, holy brothers, partners in a heavenly calling, keep your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.
2 who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also was Moses in all his house.
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
2 He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God’s household.
2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was in all God's household,
3 For he hath been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as greater than the house is he who built it.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
3 (G)For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.
3 For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house.
3 because he is worthy of greater glory than Moses in the same way that the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
4 For every house is builded by some one; but he who built all things is God.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
4 After all, every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
5 And Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, that he might testify of those things which were to be spoken;
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
5 Now (H)Moses was faithful in all His house as (I)a servant, (J)for a testimony of those things (K)which were to be spoken later;
5 Moses was faithful as a servant(C) in all God’s household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future.
5 Moses was faithful in all God's household as a servant who was to testify to what would be said later,
6 but Christ as a son over his house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and joyousness of our hope.
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
6 but Christ was faithful as (L)a Son over His house—(M)whose house we are, (N)if we hold fast our (O)confidence and the boast of our (P)hope firm until the end.
6 But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope.(a)(D)
6 but the Messiah was faithful as the Son in charge of God's household, and we are his household if we hold on to our courage and the hope in which we rejoice.
A Serious Warning Against Unbelief
8 harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of the temptation in the wilderness,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
8 (S)Do not harden your hearts as (b)when they provoked Me,As in the day of trial in the wilderness,
8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,on the day of testing in the wilderness,
8 do not harden your hearts as they did when they provoked me during the time of testing in the wilderness.
10 Wherefore I was offended with that generation, and said, They always err in their heart, but they knew not my ways;
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
10 “(V)Therefore I was angry with this generation,And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,And they did not know My ways’;
10 for 40 years.Therefore I was provoked with that generationand said, “They always go astray in their hearts,and they have not known My ways.”
10 even though they had seen my actions for 40 years. That is why I was indignant with that generation and said, "They are always going astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.'
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
12 (X)Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart (c)that falls away from (Y)the living God.
12 Watch out, brothers, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God.
12 See to it, my brothers, that no evil, unbelieving heart is found in any of you, as shown by your turning away from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
13 But (Z)encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the (AA)deceitfulness of sin.
13 But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.(F)
13 Instead, continue to encourage one another every day, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin,
14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast our first confidence firm to the end.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
14 For we have become partakers of Christ, (AB)if we hold fast the beginning of our (AC)assurance firm until the end,
14 For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality(c) that we had at the start.(G)
14 because we are the Messiah's partners only if we hold on to our original confidence to the end.
15 When it is said, "Today, if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation,"
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
15 while it is said,“(AD)Today if you hear His voice,Do not harden your hearts, as (d)when they provoked Me.”
15 As it is said, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as they did when they provoked me."
16 who then, when they had heard, provoked? Was it not all who came out of Egypt by means of Moses?
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
16 For who (AE)provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, (AF)did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?
16 Now who heard him and provoked him? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?
17 And with whom was he offended forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, (AG)whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
17 And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?(J)
17 And with whom was he angry for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned and whose bodies fell dead in the wilderness?
18 And to whom did he swear that they should not enter into his rest, except to those who were disobedient?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
18 And to whom did He swear (AH)that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were (AI)disobedient?
18 And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?
18 And to whom did he swear that they would never enter his rest? It was to those who disobeyed him, was it not?
