The Mediator Of A New And Better Covenant

1 Now the main point of what we have to say is this: we have such a High Priest, [the Christ] who is seated [in the place of honor] at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty (God) in heaven,(A)

1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a (A)high priest, who has taken His seat at (B)the right hand of the throne of the (C)Majesty in the heavens,

1 Now the main point of what is being said is this: We have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,(A)

1 Now the main point in what we are saying is this: we do have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven

2 a Minister (Officiating Priest) in the holy places and in the true tabernacle, which is erected not by man, but by the Lord.

2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

2 a (D)minister (a)in the sanctuary and (b)in the (E)true (c)tabernacle, which the Lord (F)pitched, not man.

2 a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man.(B)

2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tent set up by the Lord and not by any human.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is essential for this One also to have something to offer.

3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

3 For every (G)high priest is appointed (H)to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts(C) and sacrifices; therefore it was necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, this high priest had to offer something, too.

4 Now if He were [still living] on earth, He would not be a priest at all, for there are priests who offer the gifts [to God] in accordance with the Law.

4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:

4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who (I)offer the gifts according to the Law;

4 Now if He were on earth, He wouldn’t be a priest, since there are those(a) offering the gifts prescribed by the law.

4 Now if he were on earth, he would not even be a priest, because other men offer the gifts prescribed by the Law.

5 They serve as a pattern and foreshadowing of [what has its true existence and reality in] the heavenly things (sanctuary). For when Moses was about to erect the tabernacle, he was warned by God, saying, “See that you make it all [exactly] according to the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.”(B)

5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

5 who serve (J)a copy and (K)shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses (d)was (L)warned by God when he was about to erect the (e)tabernacle; for, “(M)See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”

5 These serve as a copy and shadow(D) of the heavenly things, as Moses was warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle. For God said, Be careful that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.(E)(b)

5 They serve in a sanctuary that is a copy, a shadow of the heavenly one. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tent: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain."

6 But as it is, Christ has acquired a [priestly] ministry which is more excellent [than the old Levitical priestly ministry], for He is the Mediator (Arbiter) of a better covenant [uniting God and man], which has been enacted and rests on better promises.

6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the (N)mediator of (O)a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

6 But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator(F) of a better covenant,(G) which has been legally enacted on better promises.(H)

6 However, Jesus has now obtained a more superior ministry, since the covenant he mediates is founded on better promises.

A Superior Covenant

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one or an attempt to institute another one [the new covenant].

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

7 For (P)if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one.

7 If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need to look for a second one,

8 However, God finds fault with them [showing its inadequacy] when He says,Behold, the days will come, says the Lord,When I will make and ratify a new covenantWith the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

8 For finding fault with them, He says,(Q)Behold, days are coming, says the Lord,(f)When I will effect (R)a new covenantWith the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;

8 But finding fault with His people,(c) He says:(d)Look, the days are coming, says the Lord,when I will make a new covenantwith the house of Israeland with the house of Judah—

8 but God found something wrong with his people when he said, "Look! The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

9 Not like the covenant that I made with their fathersOn the day when I took them by the handTo lead them out of the land of Egypt;For they did not abide in My covenant,And so I withdrew My favor and disregarded them, says the Lord.

9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

9 (S)Not like the covenant which I made with their fathersOn the day when I took them by the handTo lead them out of the land of Egypt;For they did not continue in My covenant,And I did not care for them, says the Lord.

9 not like the covenantthat I made with their ancestorson the day I took them by their handsto lead them out of the land of Egypt.I disregarded them, says the Lord,because they did not continue in My covenant.

9 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors at the time when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. Because they did not remain loyal to my covenant, I ignored them, declares the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of IsraelAfter those days, says the Lord:I will imprint My laws upon their minds [even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding],And engrave them upon their hearts [effecting their regeneration].And I will be their God,And they shall be My people.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

10 (T)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of IsraelAfter those days, says the Lord:(g)I will put My laws into their minds,And I will write them (U)on their hearts.And I will be their God,And they shall be My people.

10 But this is the covenantthat I will make with the house of Israelafter those days, says the Lord:I will put My laws into their mindsand write them on their hearts.I will be their God,and they will be My people.(I)

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

11 And it will not be [necessary] for each one to teach his fellow citizen,Or each one his brother, saying, ‘Know [by experience, have knowledge of] the Lord,’For all will know [Me by experience and have knowledge of] Me,From the least to the greatest of them.

11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

11 (V)And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen,And everyone his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’For (W)all will know Me,From (h)the least to the greatest of them.

11 And each person will not teach his fellow citizen,(e)and each his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,”because they will all know Me,from the least to the greatest of them.(J)

11 Never again will everyone teach his neighbor or his brother by saying, "Know the Lord,' because all of them will know me, from the least important to the most important.

12 For I will be merciful and gracious toward their wickedness,And I will remember their sins no more.”(C)

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

12 (X)For I will be merciful to their iniquities,(Y)And I will remember their sins no more.”

12 For I will be merciful to their wrongdoing,and I will never again remember their sins.(f)(K)(g)

12 For I will be merciful regarding their wrong deeds, and I will never again remember their sins."

13 When God speaks of “A new covenant,” He makes the first one obsolete. And whatever is becoming obsolete (out of use, annulled) and growing old is ready to disappear.

13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

13 (i)When He said, “(Z)A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. (AA)But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is (j)ready to disappear.

13 By saying, a new covenant, He has declared that the first is old. And what is old and aging is about to disappear.(L)

13 In speaking of a "new" covenant, he has made the first one obsolete, and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.
