1 When Ephraim spoke everyone feared, he was exalted in Israel; but he was found guilty in Baal and died.

1 (A)When Ephraim (a)spoke, there was trembling.He (B)exalted himself in Israel,But through (C)Baal he (b)did wrong and died.

1 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

1 When Ephraim spoke,(A) there was trembling;he was exalted in Israel.(B)But he incurred guilt through Baal(C) and died.

1 "When the tribe of Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; and it was exalted within Israel. But when they offended God by Baal, they died,

2 And now they sin more and more, and of their silver they have made molten images according to their own intelligence, idols, all of it the work of the craftsmen; they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

2 And now they sin more and more,And make for themselves (D)molten images,Idols (c)(E)skillfully made from their silver,All of them the (F)work of craftsmen. They say of them, “Let the (d)men who sacrifice kiss the (G)calves!”

2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

2 Now they continue to sinand make themselves a cast image,(D)idols skillfully made from their silver,(E)all of them the work of craftsmen.(F)People say about them,“Let the men who sacrifice(a) kiss the calves.”(G)

2 but now they are sinning more and more, crafting idols from melted silver. Their idols are made with the most exacting skill, all of it the work of craftsmen. People say about them, "They offer human sacrifice, and kiss calf-shaped idols.'

3 Therefore they shall be as the morning mist and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor and as the smoke out of the chimney.

3 Therefore they will be like the (H)morning cloudAnd like dew which (e)soon disappears,Like (I)chaff which is blown away from the threshing floorAnd like (J)smoke from a (f)chimney.

3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

3 Therefore, they will be like the morning mist,(H)like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor,(I)or like smoke from a window.(J)

3 Therefore they will be like morning clouds, like early morning dew that evaporates, like chaff blown away from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a chimney."
