The Priests Are A Snare

11 Hear this, O priests! Give heed, O house of Israel! Listen, O house of the king! For the judgment applies to you, For you have been a snare at Mizpah And a net spread out on Tabor.

11 Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

11 Hear this, priests! Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, royal house! For the judgment applies to you because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread out on Tabor.

11 "Hear this, priests, pay attention, house of Israel, listen, royal family! For judgment is coming your way, because you have been a trap to Mizpah, a snare spread out on Mount Tabor.

11 Hear this, O you priests! And listen, O house of Israel! And give ear, O house of the king! For the judgment pronounced pertains to you and is meant for you, because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor [military strongholds on either side of the Jordan River].

22 The revolters have gone deep in depravity, But I will chastise all of them.

22 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.

22 Rebels are deeply involved in slaughter; I will be a punishment for all of them.

22 The rebels are deep into their slaughter; I am punishing them all.

22 The revolters are deeply sunk in corruption and slaughter, but I [the Lord God] am a rebuke and a chastisement for them all.

33 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me; For now, O Ephraim, you have played the harlot, Israel has defiled itself.

33 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.

33 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me. For now, Ephraim, you have acted promiscuously; Israel is defiled.

33 I know Ephraim, and Israel cannot hide from me, since you, Ephraim, have been acting like a prostitute, defiling Israel.

33 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from Me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the harlot and have worshiped idols; Israel is defiled.

Hosea Warns Against Idolatry

44 Their deeds will not allow them To return to their God. For a spirit of harlotry is within them, And they do not know the LORD.

44 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.

44 Their actions do not allow [them] to return to their God, for a spirit of promiscuity is among them, and they do not know the Lord.

44 "Their actions hinder them from turning to their God, because a spirit of fornication is in their midst, and the LORD they do not know.

44 Their doings will not permit them to return to their God, for the spirit of harlotry is within them and they know not the Lord [they do not recognize, appreciate, give heed to, or cherish the Lord].

55 Moreover, the pride of Israel testifies against him, And Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; Judah also has stumbled with them.

55 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.

55 Israel's arrogance testifies against them. Both Israel and Ephraim stumble because of their wickedness; even Judah will stumble with them.

55 The arrogance of Israel testifies against him; therefore Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their iniquity, and Judah with them.

55 But the pride and self-reliance of Israel testifies before his [own] face. Therefore shall [all] Israel, and [especially] Ephraim [the northern ten tribes], totter and fall in their iniquity and guilt, and Judah shall stumble and fall with them.

66 They will go with their flocks and herds To seek the LORD, but they will not find Him; He has withdrawn from them.

66 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.

66 They go with their flocks and herds to seek the Lord but do not find [Him]; He has withdrawn from them.

66 They will go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, but they will not find him; he has withdrawn from them.

66 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the Lord [inquiring for and requiring Him], but they will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.

77 They have dealt treacherously against the LORD, For they have borne illegitimate children Now the new moon will devour them with their land.

77 They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.

77 They betrayed the Lord; indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will devour them along with their fields.

77 They have been unfaithful to the LORD, having raised unbelieving children. In the coming month they will be devoured, along with their fields.

77 They have dealt faithlessly and treacherously with the Lord [their espoused Husband], for they have borne alien children. Now shall a [single] New Moon (one month) devour them with their fields.

War Between Judah And Israel

88 Blow the horn in Gibeah, The trumpet in Ramah Sound an alarm at Beth-aven: "Behind you, Benjamin!"

88 Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Bethaven, after thee, O Benjamin.

88 Blow the horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah; raise the war cry in Beth-aven: After you, Benjamin!

88 "Sound the trumpet in Gibeah, and the alarm in Ramah. Cry out at Beth-aven Go out, Benjamin!

88 Blow the horn in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah [both lofty hills on Benjamin's northern border]. Sound the alarm at Beth-aven: [the enemy is] behind you and after you, O Benjamin [be on your guard]!

99 Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I declare what is sure.

99 Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.

99 Ephraim will become a desolation on the day of punishment; I announce what is certain among the tribes of Israel.

99 Ephraim will be desolate when it is rebuked. I have made known among the tribes of Israel what will surely come about.

99 Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of rebuke and punishment. Among the tribes of Israel I declare what shall surely be.

1010 The princes of Judah have become like those who move a boundary; On them I will pour out My wrath like water.

1010 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.

1010 The princes of Judah are like those who move boundary markers; I will pour out My fury on them like water.

1010 The princes of Judah have become like those who move boundary markers: I will pour out my anger on them like water.

1010 The princes of Judah are like those who remove the landmark [the barrier between right and wrong]; I will pour out My wrath upon them like water.

1111 Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, Because he was determined to follow man's command.

1111 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.

1111 Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow what is worthless.

1111 Ephraim is crushed, broken by judgment, because he willingly pursued idols.

1111 Ephraim is oppressed; he is broken and crushed by [divine] judgment, because he was content to walk after idols (images) and man's [evil] command (vanities and filth).

1212 Therefore I am like a moth to Ephraim And like rottenness to the house of Judah.

1212 Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.

1212 So I am like rot to Ephraim and like decay to the house of Judah.

1212 Therefore I will consume Ephraim like a moth, and the house of Judah as rottenness consumes.

1212 Therefore I am like a moth to Ephraim and like dry rot to the house of Judah [in My judgment against them].

1313 When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb But he is unable to heal you, Or to cure you of your wound.

1313 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

1313 When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, Ephraim went to Assyria and sent [a delegation] to the great king. But he cannot cure you or heal your wound.

1313 When Ephraim examined his illness and Judah his injury, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and inquired of the great king; but he could not cure you nor heal your injury.

1313 When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to [Assyria's] great King Jareb [for help]. Yet he cannot heal you nor will he cure you of your wound [received in divine judgment].

1414 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim And like a young lion to the house of Judah I, even I, will tear to pieces and go away, I will carry away, and there will be none to deliver.

1414 For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

1414 For I am like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah. Yes, I will tear [them] to pieces and depart. I will carry [them] off, and no one can rescue [them].

1414 Therefore I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I even I will tear them to pieces, and then I will leave. I will take them away, and there will be no rescue.

1414 For I will be to Ephraim like a lion, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will rend and go on [rending]; I will carry off and there will be no one to deliver.

1515 I will go away and return to My place Until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.

1515 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

1515 I will depart and return to My place until they recognize their guilt and seek My face; they will search for Me in their distress.

1515 "I will leave and go back to my place until they admit their offense and seek my face. When affliction comes to them, they will eagerly seek me."

1515 I will return to My place [on high] until they acknowledge their offense and feel their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction and distress they will seek, inquire for, and require Me earnestly, saying,
