Moab's Hopeless Situation
1 Send the Lord of the world a lamb, from the rock that lieth toward the desert, unto the hill of the daughter Zion.
1 Send ye the lamb to the ruler of the land from Sela to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.
1 (A)Send the tribute lamb to the ruler of the land,From (a)(B)Sela by way of the wilderness to the (C)mountain of the daughter of Zion.

2 For as for the daughters of Moab, they shall be as a trembling bird, that is put out of her nest: for they shall carry them unto Arnon.
2 For it shall be, that, as a wandering bird cast out of the nest, so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon.
2 Then, like (b)(D)fleeing birds or scattered (c)nestlings,The daughters of (E)Moab will be at the fords of the (F)Arnon.
2 Like a bird fleeing,forced from the nest,the daughters of Moabwill be at the fords of the Arnon.
2 Like fluttering birds, like an abandoned nest, so are the daughters of Moab at the fords of the Arnon River.
3 Gather your counsel, come together in judgment; cover us with your shadow in the midday, as the night doth: hide the chased, and betray not them that are fled.
3 Take counsel, execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; bewray not him that wandereth.

4 Let my persecuted people dwell among you; Moab; be thou their refuge against the destroyer: for the adversary is brought to naught, the robber is undone, the tyrant is wasted in the land.
4 Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler: for the extortioner is at an end, the spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.
4 “Let the (g)outcasts of Moab stay with you;Be a hiding place to them from the destroyer.”For the extortioner has come to an end, destruction has ceased,(I)Oppressors have completely disappeared from the land.
4 Let my refugees stay with you;be a refuge for Moab(a) from the aggressor.When the oppressor has gone,destruction has ended,and marauders have vanished from the land.
4 Let the fugitives from Moab settle among you; be a shelter to them from the destroyer. When the oppressor comes to an end, and destruction has ceased, and the marauder has vanished from the land,
5 And in mercy shall the throne be prepared, and he shall sit upon it in the truth, in the tabernacle of David: judging, and seeking judgment, and making haste unto righteousness.

6 We have heard of the pride of Moab: it is well known. He is very proud, presumptuous, arrogant, and full of indignation, and vain are his lies.
6 We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his wrath: but his lies shall not be so.
6 (L)We have heard of the pride of Moab, an excessive pride;Even of his arrogance, pride, and fury;(M)His idle boasts are (h)false.

6 "We've heard about Moab's pride so very proud he became! his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence; therefore he is alone.
7 Therefore shall Moab make lamentation because of the Moabites that shall be slain: yea, they shall wail all together. Because of the foundations of the city of brick shall ye complain, even ye lame people that are left only behind.
7 Therefore shall Moab howl for Moab, every one shall howl: for the foundations of Kirhareseth shall ye mourn; surely they are stricken.
7 Therefore Moab will wail; everyone of Moab will wail.You will moan for the (N)raisin cakes of (O)Kir-haresethAs those who are utterly stricken.

7 Therefore, let Moab not wail, let everyone wail for Moab. Lament and grieve deeply for the ruined remains of Kir-hareseth.
8 The suburbs also of Heshbon were made waste, and the princes of the Gentiles hewed down the vineyards of Sibmah, which were planted with noble grapes, and spread unto Jazer, and went unto the end of the desert; whose branches stretched their fellows forth beyond the sea.
8 For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof, they are come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they are gone over the sea.
8 For the fields of (P)Heshbon have (i)withered, the vines of (Q)Sibmah as well;The lords of the nations have trampled down its choice clustersWhich reached as far as Jazer and wandered to the deserts;(R)Its tendrils spread themselves out and passed over the sea.
8 For Heshbon’s terraced vineyardsand the grapevines of Sibmah have withered.The rulers of the nationshave trampled its choice vinesthat reached as far as Jazer(H)and spread to the desert.Their shoots spread outand reached the Dead Sea.(I)
8 For the fields of Heshbon wither, as well as the vines of Sibmah. The rulers of the nations have struck down its choicest vines, which once reached Jazer and pushed to the desert. Its shoots spread out and passed over the sea."
9 Therefore I mourned for Jazer, and for the vineyards of Sibmah with great sorrow. I poured my tears upon Heshbon and Elealeh, for all their songs were laid down, in their harvest and gathering of their grapes.
9 Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen.
9 Therefore I will (S)weep bitterly for Jazer, for the vine of Sibmah;I will drench you with my tears, O (T)Heshbon and Elealeh;For the shouting over your (U)summer fruits and your harvest has fallen away.
9 So I join with Jazerto weep for the vines of Sibmah;I drench Heshbon and Elealeh with my tears.Triumphant shouts have fallen silent(b)over your summer fruit and your harvest.
9 "Therefore I weep with the tears of Jazer for the vines of Sibmah. I drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh for the shouts of joy over your summer fruit and your grain harvest have ended.
10 Mirth and cheer was gone out of the field and vineyards, insomuch that no man was glad nor sung. There went no treader into the winepress, their merry cheer was laid down.
10 And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.
10 (V)Gladness and joy are taken away from the fruitful field;In the (W)vineyards also there will be no cries of joy or jubilant shouting,No (X)treader treads out wine in the presses,For I have made the shouting to cease.
10 Joy and rejoicing(J) have been removed from the orchard;no one is singing or shouting for joy in the vineyards.(K)No one tramples grapes(c) in the winepresses.I have put an end to the shouting.
10 Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards, in the vineyards people will sing no songs, and no cheers are raised. No vintner treads out wine in the presses, because I've put an end to the shouting.
11 Wherefore my belly rumbled as it had been a lute for Moab's sake, and mine inward members for the brick wall's sake.
11 Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh.
11 Therefore my insides moan like a lyre for Moab, and my innermost being for Kir-hareseth.
12 And it shall come to pass, that when it is seen that Moab shall be made weary of his hill-chapels, he shall come to his temple to pray - but he shall not be made able.
12 And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.
12 So it will come about when Moab (Z)presents himself,When he (AA)wearies himself upon his (AB)high placeAnd comes to his sanctuary to pray,That he will not prevail.
12 When Moab appears on the high place,when he tires(d) himself out(M)and comes to his sanctuary to pray,it will do him no good.(N)
12 When Moab appears, when he arrives upon the high place and comes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not prevail."
13 So then, this is the saying that the LORD hath spoken concerning Moab since that time.

14 But now the LORD sayeth thus: In three years, which shall be as the years of a hired servant, shall the glory of Moab be turned into confusion throughout all his multitude, which is very great. And as for the remnant of them, they shall be small and feeble.
14 But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.
14 But now the Lord speaks, saying, “Within three years, as (l)(AC)a hired man would count them, the glory of (AD)Moab will be degraded along with all his great population, and his remnant will be very small and (m)impotent.”
14 And now the Lord says, “In three years, as a hired worker counts years,(O) Moab’s splendor will become an object of contempt, in spite of a very large population. And those who are left will be few and weak.”
14 But now the LORD has spoken again: "Within three years, like the years of a contract worker, Moab's glory will be brought into contempt, in spite of all its great multitude, and its survivors will be very few and of no importance."
