Wherefore the princes were angry with Jeremiah, causing him to be beaten, and to be laid in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe. For he was the ruler of the prison.

See thou give them this answer, 'I have humbly besought the king, that he will let me lie no more in Jonathan's house, that I die not there.'"

And he took Joseph and put him in prison: even in the place where the king's prisoners lay bound. And there continued he in prison,

Whereupon Asa was wroth with the seer and put him in the converting house, for he was displeased with him because of that. Moreover Asa oppressed certain of the people the same season.

and say, "Thus sayeth the king: 'Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread and water of tribulation, until I come again in peace.'"

When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer, chief in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah preach so steadfastly:

Then said the rulers and the people unto the priests and prophets, "This man may not be condemned to death, for he hath preached unto us in the name of the LORD our God."

and the husbandmen caught his servants, and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

And therefore hear now, O my lord the king: let my prayer be accepted before thee, and send me no more into the house of Jonathan the Scribe, that I die not there."

Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that dwelt in the fore entry of the prison. And they let down Jeremiah with cords into a dungeon, where there was no water, but mire.

"Wherefore, Behold, I send unto you prophets, wise men, and scribes. And of them: some shall ye kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;

Then spat they in his face, and buffeted him with their fists. And others smote him with the palm of their hands on the face,

And when the time was come, he sent a servant to his tenants, that they should give him of the fruits of the vineyard. And the tenants did beat him: and sent him away empty.

and blindfolded him, and smote his face. And asked him, saying, "Aread who it is that smote thee?"

When he had thus spoken, one of the ministers which stood by, smote Jesus on the face saying, "Answerest thou the high priest so?"

saying, "Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? And behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and ye intend to bring this man's blood upon us."

And to him they agreed, and called the apostles, and beat them, and commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

And when he had caught him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to be kept, intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

And the people ran on them, and the officers rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with rods,

The high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by, to smite him on the mouth.

They are the ministers of Christ - I speak as a fool - I am more: In labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prison more plenteously,

Others tasted of mockings, and scourgings, moreover of bonds and prisonment:

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil shall cast of you into prison, to tempt you, and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be faithful unto the death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
