2 Until when will you set a snare for words? Understand, and afterwards we will speak.
2 “How long will you hunt for words?Show understanding and then we can talk.
2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.
2 How long until you stop talking?Show some sense, and then we can talk.
2 "When are you going to stop your word hunt? Think first, and then we can talk.
4 He tears himself in his anger; shall the earth be forsaken for you? And shall the rock be moved out of its place?
4 “O (b)you who tear yourself in your anger—For your sake is the earth to be abandoned,Or the rock to be moved from its place?
4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
4 You who tear yourself in anger(a)—should the earth be abandoned on your account,or a rock be removed from its place?
4 You're tearing yourself to pieces in your anger. Will the land be abandoned because of you, or the rock be moved from its place?"
9 The trap shall take him by the heel, and the noose shall hold sway over him.
9 “A snare seizes him by the heel,And a trap snaps shut on him.
9 The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.
9 A trap catches him by the heel;a noose seizes him.
9 The trap seizes him by the heel; a snare tightens its hold on him.
10 The pitfall is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
10 “A noose for him is hidden in the ground,And a trap for him on the path.
10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
10 A rope lies hidden for him on the ground, and a snare waits for him along the path.
10 A rope lies hidden in the dirt; a trap lies waiting for him where he is walking."
13 It shall devour the parts of his skin; the first-born of death consumes his parts.
13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.
13 Parts of his skin are eaten away;death’s firstborn consumes his limbs.
13 Something gnaws on his skin; a deadly disease consumes his limbs.
14 His hope shall be rooted out of his tent, and you marched to the king of terrors.
14 “He is (J)torn from (g)the security of his tent,And (h)they march him before the king of (K)terrors.
14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.
14 He is ripped from the security of his tentand marched away to the king of terrors.
14 Torn from the security of his home, he is brought before the king of terrors.
15 What is not his shall dwell in his tent; brimstone shall be scattered on his home.
15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
15 "There's nothing in his tent that belongs to him; sulfur is scattered all over his dwelling place.
18 They drive him from light to darkness, and they make him flee from the world.
18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
18 He is driven from light to darknessand chased from the inhabited world.
18 He is driven away from light to darkness, made to wander the landscape.
20 Those after him shall be amazed at his day; and those before were seized with horror.
20 “Those (k)in the west are appalled at (S)his (l)fate,And those (m)in the east are seized with horror.
20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
20 People who live west of him are appalled at his fate; those who live east of him are seized with terror.
21 Surely these are the dwellings of the perverse, and this the place that has not known God.
21 “Surely such are the (T)dwellings of the wicked,And this is the place of him who does not know God.”
21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
21 Indeed, such is the dwelling of the unjust man,and this is the place of the one who does not know God.(L)
21 Indeed, the residences of the wicked are like this; and so are the homes of those who don't know God."
