Bildad's Second Speech

11 Then Bildad the Shuhite responded,

11 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

11 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:

11 Bildad from Shuah replied, saying:

11 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,

22 "How long will you hunt for words? Show understanding and then we can talk.

22 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

22 How long until you stop talking? Show some sense, and then we can talk.

22 "When are you going to stop your word hunt? Think first, and then we can talk.

22 How long will you lay snares for words and have to hunt for your argument? Do some clear thinking, and then we will reply.

33 "Why are we regarded as beasts, As stupid in your eyes?

33 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

33 Why are we regarded as cattle, as stupid in your sight?

33 Why do you think we're like dumb animals? Do you think we're stupid?

33 Why are we counted as beasts [as if we had no sense]? Why are we unclean in your sight?

44 "O you who tear yourself in your anger-- For your sake is the earth to be abandoned, Or the rock to be moved from its place?

44 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

44 You who tear yourself in anger- should the earth be abandoned on your account, or a rock be removed from its place?

44 You're tearing yourself to pieces in your anger. Will the land be abandoned because of you, or the rock be moved from its place?"

44 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you, or the rock be removed out of its place?

What A Wicked Person Can Expect From Life

55 "Indeed, the light of the wicked goes out, And the flame of his fire gives no light.

55 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

55 Yes, the light of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.

55 "Indeed, the light of the wicked is extinguished; the flame from his fire doesn't shine.

55 Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine.

66 "The light in his tent is darkened, And his lamp goes out above him.

66 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

66 The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him is put out.

66 Light in his tent is dark, and his lamp goes out above him.

66 The light shall be dark in his dwelling, and his lamp beside him shall be put out.

77 "His vigorous stride is shortened, And his own scheme brings him down.

77 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

77 His powerful stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.

77 His strong steps are restricted, and his own advice trips him up.

77 The steps of his strength shall be shortened, and his own counsel and the plans in which he trusted shall bring about his downfall.

88 "For he is thrown into the net by his own feet, And he steps on the webbing.

88 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.

88 For his own feet lead him into a net, and he strays into its mesh.

88 "For he has stumbled into a net with his own feet; he walked right into the network!

88 For the wicked is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon a lattice-covered pit.

99 "A snare seizes him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him.

99 The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

99 A trap catches [him] by the heel; a noose seizes him.

99 The trap seizes him by the heel; a snare tightens its hold on him.

99 A trap will catch him by the heel, and a snare will lay hold on him.

1010 "A noose for him is hidden in the ground, And a trap for him on the path.

1010 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

1010 A rope lies hidden for him on the ground, and a snare [waits] for him along the path.

1010 A rope lies hidden in the dirt; a trap lies waiting for him where he is walking."

1010 A noose is hidden for him on the ground and a trap for him in the way.

1111 "All around terrors frighten him, And harry him at every step.

1111 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

1111 Terrors frighten him on every side and harass him at every step.

1111 "He is petrified by terror that surrounds him on all sides; they chase at his heels.

1111 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side and shall chase him at his heels.

1212 "His strength is famished, And calamity is ready at his side.

1212 His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

1212 His strength is depleted; disaster lies ready for him to stumble.

1212 He is starved for strength; and is ripe for a fall.

1212 The strength [of the wicked] shall be hunger-bitten, and calamity is ready at his side [if he halts].

1313 "His skin is devoured by disease, The firstborn of death devours his limbs.

1313 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

1313 Parts of his skin are eaten away; death's firstborn consumes his limbs.

1313 Something gnaws on his skin; a deadly disease consumes his limbs.

1313 By disease his strength and his skin shall be devoured; the firstborn of death [the worst of diseases] shall consume his limbs.

1414 "He is torn from the security of his tent, And they march him before the king of terrors.

1414 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

1414 He is ripped from the security of his tent and marched away to the king of terrors.

1414 Torn from the security of his home, he is brought before the king of terrors.

1414 He shall be rooted out of his dwelling place in which he trusted, and he shall be brought to the king of terrors [death].

1515 "There dwells in his tent nothing of his; Brimstone is scattered on his habitation.

1515 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

1515 Nothing he owned remains in his tent. Burning sulfur is scattered over his home.

1515 "There's nothing in his tent that belongs to him; sulfur is scattered all over his dwelling place.

1515 There shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his [family]; sulphur shall be scattered over his dwelling [to purify it after his going].

1616 "His roots are dried below, And his branch is cut off above.

1616 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

1616 His roots below dry up, and his branches above wither away.

1616 His roots wither underneath, while his branches above are being cut off.

1616 The roots [of the wicked] shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off and wither.

1717 "Memory of him perishes from the earth, And he has no name abroad.

1717 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

1717 [All] memory of him perishes from the earth; he has no name abroad.

1717 No one remembers him anywhere in the land; no one names streets in his honor.

1717 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

1818 "He is driven from light into darkness, And chased from the inhabited world.

1818 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

1818 He is driven from light to darkness and chased from the inhabited world.

1818 He is driven away from light to darkness, made to wander the landscape.

1818 He shall be thrust from light into darkness and driven out of the world.

1919 "He has no offspring or posterity among his people, Nor any survivor where he sojourned.

1919 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

1919 He has no children or descendants among his people, no survivor where he used to live.

1919 He has no children or descendants within his own people; and no survivors where he once lived.

1919 He shall neither have son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining where he sojourned.

2020 "Those in the west are appalled at his fate, And those in the east are seized with horror.

2020 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

2020 Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.

2020 People who live west of him are appalled at his fate; those who live east of him are seized with terror.

2020 They [of the west] that come after [the wicked man] shall be astonished and appalled at his day, as they [of the east] that went before were seized with horror.

2121 "Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, And this is the place of him who does not know God."

2121 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

2121 Indeed, such is the dwelling of the wicked, and this is the place of the one who does not know God.

2121 Indeed, the residences of the wicked are like this; and so are the homes of those who don't know God."

2121 Surely such are the dwellings of the ungodly, and such is the place of him who knows not (recognizes not and honors not) God.
