2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

2 Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?Let him who argues with God give an answer.(a)

2 "Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."

4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

4 I am so insignificant. How can I answer You?(A)I place my hand over my mouth.

4 "I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless.

5 I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further."

5 “Once I have spoken, and (D)I will not answer;Even twice, and I will add nothing more.”

5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

5 I have spoken once, and I will not reply;twice, but now I can add nothing.(B)

7 Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question(D) you, you will inform Me.

7 "Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!

Yahweh Interrogates Job Again

8 Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

8 “Will you really (H)annul My judgment? Will you (I)condemn Me (J)that you may be justified?

8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

8 Would you really challenge My justice?Would you declare Me guilty(E) to justify yourself?(F)

8 Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?

9 Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him?

9 “Or do you have an arm like God,And can you (K)thunder with a voice like His?

9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

9 Do you have an arm like God’s?Can you thunder with a voice like His?

9 Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"

10 "Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.

10 (L)Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity,And clothe yourself with honor and majesty.

10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

10 Adorn yourself with majesty(G) and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.

10 "When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity,

11 Pour out the fury of your anger. Look at everyone who is proud, and bring him low.

11 “Pour out (M)the overflowings of your anger,And look on everyone who is (N)proud, and make him low.

11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

11 Unleash your raging anger;(H)look on every proud person and humiliate him.(I)

11 dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,

12 Look at everyone who is proud, and humble him. Crush the wicked in their place.

12 “Look on everyone who is proud, and (O)humble him,And (P)tread down the wicked (a)where they stand.

12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

12 Look on every proud person and humble him;(J)trample the wicked where they stand.(b)

12 stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,

13 Hide them in the dust together. Bind their faces in the hidden place.

13 (Q)Hide them in the dust together;Bind (b)them in the hidden place.

13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

13 Hide them together in the dust;imprison them in the grave.(c)

13 buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place,

14 Then I will also admit to you that your own right hand can save you.

14 “Then I will also (c)confess to you,That your own right hand can save you.

14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

14 Then I will confess to youthat your own right hand(K) can deliver you.(L)

14 then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"

Can You Conquer Behemoth, Job?

15 "See now, behemoth, which I made as well as you. He eats grass as an ox.

15 “Behold now, (d)Behemoth, which (R)I made (e)as well as you;He eats grass like an ox.

15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

15 Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you.He eats grass like an ox.

15 "Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.

16 Look now, his strength is in his thighs. His force is in the muscles of his belly.

16 “Behold now, his strength in his loinsAnd his power in the muscles of his belly.

16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

16 Look at the strength of his loinsand the power in the muscles of his belly.

16 Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.

17 He moves his tail like a cedar. The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

17 “He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

17 He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree;the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together.

17 His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.

18 His bones are like tubes of brass. His limbs are like bars of iron.

18 “His bones are tubes of bronze; His (f)limbs are like bars of iron.

18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

18 His bones are bronze tubes;his limbs are like iron rods.

18 His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.

19 He is the chief of the ways of God. He who made him gives him his sword.

19 “He is the (S)first of the ways of God;Let his (T)maker bring near his sword.

19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

19 He is the foremost of God’s works;(M)only his Maker can draw the sword against him.

19 He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword.

20 Surely the mountains produce food for him, where all the animals of the field play.

20 “Surely the mountains (U)bring him food,And all the beasts of the field (V)play there.

20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

20 The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there.

20 Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.

21 He lies under the lotus trees, in the covert of the reed, and the marsh.

21 “Under the lotus plants he lies down,In the covert of the reeds and the marsh.

21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

21 He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection(d) of marshy reeds.

21 He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes.

22 The lotuses cover him with their shade. The willows of the brook surround him.

22 “The lotus plants cover him with (g)shade; The willows of the brook surround him.

22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

22 Lotus plants cover him with their shade;the willows by the brook surround him.

22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.

23 Behold, if a river overflows, he doesn't tremble. He is confident, though the Jordan swells even to his mouth.

23 “If a river (h)rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the (W)Jordan rushes to his mouth.

23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

23 Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid;he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth.

23 What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.

24 Shall any take him when he is on the watch, or pierce through his nose with a snare?

24 “Can anyone capture him (i)when he is on watch,With (j)barbs can anyone pierce his nose?

24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

24 Can anyone capture him while he looks on,(e)or pierce his nose with snares? >

24 Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"
