Again Peter denied it. And at that very moment the cock crowed.

Jesus replied, "Lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I tell you, before the cock crows, you will have disowned me thrice over.

Jesus said to him, "I tell you truly, you will disown me three times this very night, before the cock crows."

At this he broke out cursing and swearing, "I do not know the man." At that moment a cock crowed.

But he denied it. "I do not know," he said, "I have no idea what you mean." Then he went outside into the passage. The cock crowed.

Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow to-day before you have three times denied that you know me."

"Man," said Peter, "I do not know what you mean." Instantly, just as he was speaking, the cock crowed;

He saw one of them being badly treated, so he defended him, struck down the Egyptian, and thus avenged the man who had been wronged.
