That ye

as soon as the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, "crucify him, crucify him." Pilate said to them, take him yourselves, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

what is truth? said Pilate. and upon saying this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I don't find he is guilty of any crime.

I have sinned in betraying the blood of the innocent: and they said, what is it to us? you must look to that.

as for us, it is with justice, that we suffer the penalty due to our crimes: but as for him, what misdemeanour has he been guilty of?

for he hath made him who knew no sin to be a sin-offering for us, that we might be justified by God thro' him.

and indeed we wanted an high priest of such a character, one that is holy, innocent, undefiled, one that is separated from sinful men, and exalted above the heavens; one who was under no necessity,

but by the precious blood of Christ, who is the lamb without spot, and without blemish:

leaving an example for your exact imitation, he who never offended, and from whose lips no fallacy was ever utter'd,

for Jesus Christ himself has already suffer'd for our sins, the innocent for the guilty, to bring us to God: who, tho' he died with respect to his body, was rais'd to life by that spirit,

and you know that he appear'd to abolish our sins; and that he was himself without sin.
