Jesus Appears To The Disciples In Galilee

1 Later on, Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. This is what happened:

1 After these things Jesus (a)(A)manifested Himself (B)again to the disciples at the (C)Sea of Tiberias, and He manifested Himself in this way.

1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

1 After this, Jesus revealed(A) Himself again to His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias.(a)(B) He revealed Himself in this way:

1 After this Jesus revealed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias (Galilee). And He did it in this way:

2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathaniel from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two of his other disciples were together.

2 Simon Peter, and (D)Thomas called (b)Didymus, and (E)Nathanael of (F)Cana in Galilee, and (G)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

2 Simon Peter,(C) Thomas(D) (called “Twin”), Nathanael(E) from Cana of Galilee,(F) Zebedee’s(G) sons, and two others of His disciples were together.

2 Simon Peter, and Thomas who is called Didymus (the twin), and Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, as well as [John and James] the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.

3 Simon Peter told them, "I'm going fishing." They all told him, "We'll go with you, too." So they went out and got into the boat but didn't catch a thing that night.

3 Simon Peter *said to them, “I am going fishing.” They *said to him, “We will also come with you.” They went out and got into the boat; and (H)that night they caught nothing.

3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

3 “I’m going fishing,” Simon Peter said to them.“We’re coming with you,” they told him. They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.(H)

3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said, “And we are coming with you.” So they went out and got into the boat; and (a)that night they caught nothing.

4 Just as dawn was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore. The disciples didn't realize it was Jesus.

4 But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not (I)know that it was Jesus.

4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

4 When daybreak came, Jesus stood on the shore. However, the disciples did not know it was Jesus.(I)

4 As morning was breaking, Jesus [came and] stood on the beach; however, the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

5 Jesus asked them, "Children, you don't have any fish, do you?" They answered him, "No."

5 So Jesus *said to them, “Children, (J)you do not have (c)any fish, do you?” They answered Him, “No.”

5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

5 “Men,”(b) Jesus called to them, “you don’t have any fish, do you?”“No,” they answered.

5 So Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish [to eat along with your bread]?” They answered, “No.”

6 He told them, "Throw the net on the right hand side of the boat, and you'll catch some." So they threw it out and were unable to haul it in because it was so full of fish.

6 And He said to them, (K)Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat and you will find a catch.” So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish.

6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

6 “Cast the net on the right side of the boat,” He told them, “and you’ll find some.” So they did,(c) and they were unable to haul it in because of the large number of fish.

6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat (starboard) and you will find some.” So they cast [the net], and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great catch of fish.

7 That disciple whom Jesus kept loving told Peter, "It's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his clothes back on, because he was practically naked, and jumped into the sea.

7 (L)Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved *said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his outer garment on (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea.

7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

7 Therefore the disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord!”(J)When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer garment around him(d) (for he was stripped) and plunged into the sea.

7 Then that disciple (John) whom Jesus loved (esteemed) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer tunic (for he was stripped for work) and threw himself into the sea [and swam ashore].

8 But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish. They were only about 200 cubits away from the shore.

8 But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about (d)one hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

8 But since they were not far from land (about 100 yards(e)(K) away), the other disciples came in the boat,(L) dragging the net full of fish.

8 But the other disciples came in the small boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.

9 When they arrived at the shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish lying on it, and some bread.

9 So when they got out on the land, they *saw a charcoal (M)fire already laid and (N)fish placed on it, and bread.

9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish lying on it, and bread.

9 So when they got out on the beach, they saw a charcoal fire set up and fish on it cooking, and bread.

10 Jesus told them, "Bring me some of the fish you've just caught."

10 Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the (O)fish which you have now caught.”

10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus told them.

10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”

11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish 153 of them. And although there were so many of them, the net was not torn.

11 Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

11 So Simon Peter got up and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish—153 of them. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.(M)

11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three [of them]; and although there were so many, the net was not torn.

12 Then Jesus told them, "Come, have breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?", because they knew it was the Lord.

12 Jesus *said to them, “Come and have (P)breakfast.” None of the disciples ventured to question Him, “Who are You?” knowing that it was the Lord.

12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

12 “Come and have breakfast,” Jesus told them. None of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” because they knew it was the Lord.

12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared to ask Him, “Who are You?” They knew [without any doubt] that it was the Lord.

13 Jesus took the bread, gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.

13 Jesus *came and *took (Q)the bread and *gave it to them, and the (R)fish likewise.

13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

13 Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them. He did the same with the fish.

13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

14 This was now the third time that Jesus revealed himself to the disciples after he had been raised from the dead.

14 This is now the (S)third time that Jesus (e)was manifested to the disciples, after He was raised from the dead.

14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

14 This was now the third time(f)(N) Jesus appeared(g)(O) to the disciples after He was raised from the dead.

14 This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples, after He had risen from the dead.

Peter Is Restored Three Times

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" Peter told him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus told him, "Feed my lambs."

15 So when they had (T)finished breakfast, Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you (f)(U)love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I (g)love You.” He *said to him, “Tend (V)My lambs.”

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

15 When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John,(h) do you love(i) Me more than these?”“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”“Feed(P) My lambs,”(Q) He told him.

15 So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with total commitment and devotion]?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I (b)love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend].” Jesus said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

16 Then he asked him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter told him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you."

16 He *said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you (h)love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I (i)love You.” He *said to him, (W)Shepherd My sheep.”

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

16 A second time He asked him, “Simon, son of John, do you love(R) Me?”(S)“Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.”“Shepherd(T) My sheep,”(U) He told him.

16 Again He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with total commitment and devotion]?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend].” Jesus said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”

17 Jesus told him, "Take care of my sheep." He asked him a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was deeply hurt that he had asked him a third time, "Do you love me?" So he told him, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you!"

17 He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you (j)love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him (X)the third time, “Do you (k)love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, (Y)You know all things; You know that I (l)love You.” Jesus *said to him, (Z)Tend My sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love(V) Me?”Peter was grieved(W) that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know everything!(X) You know that I love You.”“Feed(Y) My sheep,” Jesus said.

17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with a deep, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend]?” Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, “Do you [really] (c)love Me [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend].” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

18 Jesus told him, "Feed my sheep. "Truly, I tell you emphatically, when you were young, you would fasten your belt and go wherever you liked. But when you get old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten your belt and take you where you don't want to go."

18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go.”

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

18 “I assure you:(Z) When you were young, you would tie your belt and walk wherever you wanted. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will tie you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

18 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and walked wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and arms, and someone else will dress you, and carry you where you do not wish to go.”

19 Now he said this to show by what kind of death he would glorify God. After saying this, Jesus told him, "Keep following me."

19 Now this He said, (AA)signifying by (AB)what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He *said to him, (AC)Follow Me!”

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

19 He said this to signify by what kind of death(AA) he would glorify God.(j)(AB) After saying this, He told him, “Follow Me!”(AC)

19 Now He said this to indicate the (d)kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. And after saying this, He said to him, “Follow Me [walk the same path of life that I have walked]!”

Peter And The Other Disciple Jesus Loved

20 Peter turned around and noticed the disciple whom Jesus kept loving following them. He was the one who had put his head on Jesus' chest at the supper and had asked, "Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?"

20 Peter, turning around, *saw the (AD)disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had (AE)leaned back on His bosom at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”

20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

20 So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved(AD) following them. That disciple was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray You?”(AE)

20 Peter turned and saw the (e)disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His chest at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray You?”

21 When Peter saw him, he said, "Lord, what about him?"

21 So Peter seeing him *said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?”

21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord—what about him?”

21 So when Peter saw him, he asked Jesus, “Lord, and what about this (f)man [what is in his future]?”

22 Jesus told him, "If it's my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you? You must keep following me!"

22 Jesus *said to him, “If I want him to remain (AF)until I come, what is that to you? You (AG)follow Me!”

22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

22 “If I want him to remain until I come,”(AF) Jesus answered, “what is that to you? As for you, follow Me.”

22 Jesus said to him, “If I want him to stay alive until I come [again], what is that to you? You follow Me!”

23 So the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple wasn't going to die. Yet Jesus didn't say to Peter that he wasn't going to die, but, "If it's my will for him to remain until I come back, how does that concern you?"

23 Therefore this saying went out among (AH)the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain (AI)until I come, what is that to you?”

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

23 So this report(k) spread to the brothers(l)(AG) that this disciple would not die.(AH) Yet Jesus did not tell him that he would not die, but, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?”

23 So this word went out among the brothers that this disciple (John) was not going to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not going to die, but only, “If I want him to stay alive until I come [again], what is that to you?”

A Concluding Word Of Testimony

24 This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them down. We know that his testimony is true.

24 This is the disciple who (AJ)is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

24 This is the same (g)disciple who is testifying to these things and has recorded them; and we know [without any doubt] that his testimony is true.

25 Of course, Jesus also did many other things, and I suppose that if every one of them were written down, the world couldn't contain the books that would be written.

25 And there are also (AK)many other things which Jesus did, which if they *were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself *would not contain the books that *would be written.

25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books(m) that would be written.(AI)

25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were recorded (h)one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
