1 So then the boundary of the tribe of the sons of Judah, by their families, - reached unto the boundary of Edom, the desert of Zin southward, on the extreme south;
1 Now (A)the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families (a)reached the (B)border of Edom, southward to the (C)wilderness of Zin at the extreme south.
1 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast.
1 Now the allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah by their clans(A) was in the southernmost region, south to the Wilderness of Zin and over to the border of Edom.
1 Joshua said, "Now the allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah, allocated according to their families, will extend to the border of Edom, southward to the wilderness of Zin until land's end,
2 so their south boundary beginneth at the end of the Salt Sea, - from the bay that turneth to the south;
2 Their south border was from the lower end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that turns to the south.
2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:
2 then from the southern end of the Dead Sea, that is, from the bay that orients toward the Negev,
3 and goeth forth on the south of the cliffs of Akrabbim, and crosseth over to Zin, and goeth up on the south of Kadesh-barnea, - and passeth over by Hezron, and goeth up to Addar, and turneth round to Karka;
3 Then it proceeded southward to the ascent of Akrabbim and continued to Zin, then went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea and continued to Hezron, and went up to Addar and turned about to Karka.
3 And it went out to the south side to Maalehacrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadeshbarnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:
3 and went south of the Ascent of Akrabbim,(b) proceeded to Zin, ascended to the south of Kadesh-barnea, passed Hezron, ascended to Addar, and turned to Karka.
3 proceeding south to the ascent of Akrabbim, then continuing to Zin, and from there up along the south of Kadesh-barnea to Hezron, and from there up to Addar and then to Karka,
4 and passeth over to Azmon, and goeth forth at the ravine of Egypt, and so the extensions of the boundary are to the sea. This, shall be your south boundary.
4 It (D)continued to Azmon and proceeded to the (b)(E)brook of Egypt, and the (c)border ended at the sea. This shall be your south border.
4 From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.
4 It proceeded to Azmon and to the Brook of Egypt and so the border ended at the Mediterranean Sea. This is your(c) southern border.
4 passing along to Azmon toward the Wadi of Egypt and ending at the sea. This will be your southern border."
5 And, a boundary eastward, is the Salt Sea, as far as the end of the Jordan. And, the boundary on the north side, is from the bay of the sea, from the end of the Jordan.
5 The (F)east border was the Salt Sea, as far as the (d)mouth of the Jordan. And the (G)border of the north side was from the bay of the sea at the (e)mouth of the Jordan.
5 And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan:
5 Now the eastern border was along the Dead Sea to the mouth of the Jordan.(d) The border on the north side was from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan.
5 The eastern border was the Dead Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan River. The border of the north side extended from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan River
6 And the boundary goeth up Beth-hoglah, and passeth over, on the north, by Beth-arabah, - and the boundary goeth up by the Stone of Bohan, son of Reuben;
6 Then the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and continued on the north of Beth-arabah, and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.
6 And the border went up to Bethhogla, and passed along by the north of Betharabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben:
6 It ascended to Beth-hoglah, proceeded north of Beth-arabah, and ascended to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
6 toward Beth-hoglah, and continuing on the north of Beth-arabah. The border ascended up to the boundary marker set up by Reuben's son Bohan.
7 and the boundary goeth up towards Debir, out of the vale of Achor, then northward, turning unto Gilgal, which is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the ravine, - then the boundary passeth over unto the waters of En-shemesh, and so the extensions thereof are unto En-rogel:
7 The border went up to Debir from (H)the valley of Achor, and turned northward toward Gilgal which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south of the valley; and the border continued to the waters of En-shemesh and (f)it ended at En-rogel.
7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of Enshemesh, and the goings out thereof were at Enrogel:
7 Then the border ascended to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to the Gilgal that is opposite the Ascent of Adummim, which is south of the ravine. The border proceeded to the waters of En-shemesh and ended at En-rogel.
7 The boundary then went up to Debir from the Achor valley and turned north toward Gilgal opposite the ascent of Adummim in the southern part of the valley. Then the border continued to the waters of En-shemesh and terminated at En-rogel.
8 then ascendeth the boundary by the valley of the son of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite, on the south, the same, is Jerusalem, - and the boundary goeth up unto the top of the mountain which faceth the valley of Hinnom, to the west, which is at the end of the Vale of Giants, northwards;
8 Then the border went up the valley of Ben-hinnom to the slope of the (I)Jebusite on the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain which is before the valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim toward the north.
8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:
8 From there the border ascended the Valley of Hinnom to the southern Jebusite slope (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.
8 Then the border proceeded up the valley of Ben-hinnom to the southern ascent of the Jebusites (that is, to Jerusalem), and from there to the top of the mountain that faces the valley of Hinnom to the west at the end of the valley of Rephaim toward the north.
9 and the boundary turneth round, from the top of the mountain, unto the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and goeth out unto the cities of Mount Ephron, - then the boundary turneth round to Baalah, the same, is Kiriath-jearim;
9 From the top of the mountain the border curved to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, then the border curved to (J)Baalah (that is, (K)Kiriath-jearim).
9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjathjearim:
9 From the top of the hill the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, went to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then curved to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim(B)).
9 The border proceeded from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, then to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then the border curved toward Baalah (also known as Kiriath-jearim).
10 then the boundary goeth round from Baalah westward, unto Mount Seir, and passeth over unto the slope of Mount Yearim, on the north, the same, is Chesalon, - and descendeth Bethshemesh, and passeth over Timnah;
10 The border turned about from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and continued to the slope of Mount Jearim on the north (that is, Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh and continued through (L)Timnah.
10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Bethshemesh, and passed on to Timnah:
10 The border turned westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, went to the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), descended to Beth-shemesh, and proceeded to Timnah.(C)
10 The border turned west from Baalah to Mount Seir, continuing to the top of Mount Jearim on the north (also known as Chesalon), and then proceeded to Beth-shemesh, continuing through Timnah.
11 then the boundary goeth forth unto the side of Ekron, northward, then the boundary turneth round towards Shikkeron, and crosseth over Mount Baalah, and goeth out at Jabneel, - and the extensions of the boundary are to the sea.
11 The border proceeded to the side of Ekron northward. Then the border curved to Shikkeron and continued to Mount Baalah and proceeded to Jabneel, and the (g)border ended at the sea.
11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.
11 Then the border reached to the slope north of Ekron, curved to Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went to Jabneel, and ended at the Mediterranean Sea.
11 The border proceeded north to the edge of Ekron, then curved to Shikkeron and on to Mount Baalah, proceeding then to Jabneel, where the boundary ended at the sea.
12 And, as a west boundary, are the great sea and coast. This, is the boundary of the sons of Judah, round about, by their families.
12 The west border was (M)at the Great Sea, even its (h)coastline. This is the border around the sons of Judah according to their families.
12 And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.
12 Now the western border was the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.This was the boundary of the descendants of Judah around their clans.
12 The western border was at the Mediterranean Sea coastline. This is the border that surrounded the territory of the descendants of Judah, according to their families.
13 And, to Caleb, son of Jephunneh, gave he a portion, in the midst of the sons of Judah, at the bidding of Yahweh, by Joshua, - even the City of Arba, father of Anak, the same, is Hebron.
13 Now (N)he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion (O)among the sons of Judah, according to the (i)command of the Lord to Joshua, namely, (j)Kiriath-arba, Arba being the father of Anak (that is, Hebron).
13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.
13 He gave Caleb son of Jephunneh the following portion among the descendants of Judah based on the Lord’s instruction to Joshua: Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron; Arba was the father of Anak).
13 Now Joshua gave an allotment among the descendants of Judah to Jephunneh's son Caleb, just as God told Joshua, Kiriath-arba, which was named after the ancestor of Anak (that is, Hebron).
14 And Caleb dispossessed from thence, the three sons of Anak, - Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.

16 Then said Caleb, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah, my daughter, to wife.
16 And Caleb said, “The one who (l)attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, (m)I will give him Achsah my daughter as a wife.”
16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
16 and Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Achsah as a wife to the one who strikes down and captures Kiriath-sepher.”
16 Then Caleb announced, "I will give my daughter Achsah in marriage to the one who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it."
17 And Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, captured it, - so he gave unto him Achsah, his daughter, to wife.

18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
18 When she arrived, she persuaded Othniel to ask her father for a field. As she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you want?”
18 Sometime later, she came to Othniel and persuaded him to ask her father for a field. As she dismounted from her donkey, Caleb asked her, "What do you want?"
19 And she said - Give me a present, for, dry land, hast thou given me, therefore must thou give me, pools of water. So he gave her upper pools and lower pools.
19 Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the (n)Negev, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.
19 She replied, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me the springs of water also.” So he gave her the upper and lower springs.
19 She replied, "Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negev, give me also some springs of water." So he gave her the upper and lower springs.
20 This, is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah, by their families.

63 But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem.(K) So the Jebusites live in Jerusalem among the descendants of Judah to this day.(L)
63 Now as for the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem, the descendants of Judah could not expel them, so Jebusites live with the descendants of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
