Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down
against Midian and take the waters before them, as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.” So all the men of Ephraim were summoned and they took the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.
Now there was a man of the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Micah.
Now it came about in those days, when
there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite staying in the remote part of the hill country of Ephraim, who took a concubine for himself from Bethlehem in Judah.
Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go
up to the forest and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”
