"But now for a brief moment grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage.
"Nevertheless, in Your great compassion You did not make an end of them or forsake them, For You are a gracious and compassionate God.
But He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; And often He restrained His anger And did not arouse all His wrath.
And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
"But they rebelled against Me and were not willing to listen to Me; they did not cast away the detestable things of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to accomplish My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
"For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever?
But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.
Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love.
"AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.
