2 Jehovah said: Tell your brother Aaron that he cannot go into the holy place whenever he wants to. If he goes up to the canopy and stands in front of the throne of mercy on the Ark, he will die. This is because I appear in the smoke above the throne of mercy.
2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
2 The Lord said to Moses:“Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter (B)at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the (a)mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for (C)I will appear in the cloud over the (b)mercy seat.

Day Of Atonement Offerings
3 This is what Aaron must do in order to come into the holy place: He must take a bull as an offering for sin and a ram as a burnt offering.
3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
3 Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a (c)bull for a (D)sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
3 “Aaron is to enter the most holy place(H) in this way: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.(I)
3 Aaron is to enter the sacred place with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a whole burnt offering.
4 He must dress in a holy linen robe and wear linen undergarments. He must wear a linen belt and turban. These are holy clothes. He should wash his body and put them on.
4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
4 He shall put on the (E)holy linen tunic, and the linen undergarments shall be next to his (d)body, and he shall be girded with the linen sash and attired with the linen turban (these are holy garments). Then he shall (F)bathe his (e)body in water and put them on.
4 He is to wear a holy linen tunic, and linen undergarments are to be on his body. He must tie a linen sash around him and wrap his head with a linen turban.(J) These are holy garments; he must bathe his body with water before he wears them.
4 He is to wear a sacred linen tunic and linen undergarments that will cover his genitals. He is to clothe himself with a sash and wrap his head with a linen turban. Because they are sacred garments, he is to wash himself with water before putting them on."
5 He will take two male goats from the congregation of Israel as an offering for sin and a ram as a burnt offering.
5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
5 He shall take from the congregation of the sons of Israel (G)two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering.
5 He is to take from the Israelite community two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering.(K)
5 "He is to take two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a whole burnt offering from the assembly of the Israelis.
6 Aaron must sacrifice the bull as his own offering for sin. By doing this, he will pay compensation for wrongdoing and make peace with Jehovah for himself and his family.
6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
6 Then (H)Aaron shall offer the bull for the sin offering which is for himself, that he may make atonement for himself and for his household.
6 “Aaron will present the bull for his sin offering and make atonement for himself and his household.
6 Then Aaron is to bring the bull as a sin offering for himself and make atonement for himself and his household.
7 He must take the two male goats and bring them into Jehovah's presence at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
7 He shall take the two goats and present them before the Lord at the doorway of the tent of meeting.
7 Next he will take the two goats and place them before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
7 Then he is to take the two male goats and present them in the LORD's presence at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
8 I will show Aaron which goat will be sacrificed to me and which one will be sent into the desert to the demon Azazel.
8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
8 Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other lot for the (f)scapegoat.
8 Aaron is to cast lots over the two male goats one lot for the LORD and the other one for the scapegoat.
9 After he offers the first goat as a sacrifice for sin,
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
9 Then Aaron shall offer the goat on which the lot for the Lord fell, and make it a sin offering.
9 Aaron is then to bring the male goat on which the lot fell for the LORD and offer it as a sin offering.
10 the other one must be presented to me alive, before he sends it into the desert to take away the sins of the people.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
10 But the goat on which the lot for the (g)scapegoat fell shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make (I)atonement upon it, to send it into the wilderness as the (h)scapegoat.
10 But the goat chosen by lot for azazel(c) is to be presented alive before the Lord to make purification with it by sending it into the wilderness(O) for azazel.
10 The male goat on which the lot fell for the scapegoat is to be brought alive into the LORD's presence to make atonement for himself. Then he is to send it into the wilderness."
The Sin Offering Sacrificial Procedures
11 He must offer the bull as a sacrifice to ask forgiveness for your own sins and for the sins of your family.
11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
11 “Then Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering (J)which is for himself and make atonement for himself and (K)for his household, and he shall slaughter the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.
11 “When Aaron presents the bull for his sin offering and makes atonement for himself and his household, he will slaughter the bull for his sin offering.
11 "Aaron is then to bring the bull for a sin offering for himself, thus making atonement for himself and his household. He is to slaughter the ox for himself.
12 He will take an incense burner full of burning coals from the altar in Jehovah's presence, and two handfuls of finely ground, sweet-smelling incense. He will bring them up to the canopy.
12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
12 He shall take a (L)firepan full of coals of fire from upon the altar before the Lord and (i)two handfuls of finely ground (M)sweet incense, and bring it inside the veil.
12 Then he must take a firepan full of fiery coals from the altar before the Lord and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense,(P) and bring them inside the veil.(Q)
12 Then he is to take a censer and fill it with coals from the fire on the altar in the LORD's presence. With his hands full of spiced and refined incense, he is to bring it beyond the curtain.
13 He must place the incense on the fire in Jehovah's presence. The cloud of incense will cover the throne of mercy. This is over the words of God's promise, so that he will not die.
13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
13 He shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of incense may cover the (j)(N)mercy seat that is on the ark of the testimony, (O)otherwise he will die.
13 He is to put the incense on the fire before the Lord, so that the cloud(R) of incense covers the mercy seat that is over the testimony,(S) or else he will die.(T)
13 "Then he is to place the incense over the fire in the LORD's presence, ensuring that the smoke from the incense covers the Mercy Seat, according to regulation, so he won't die.
14 He will take some of the bull's blood and sprinkle it with his finger on the east side of the throne of mercy. Then he will sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times in front of the throne of mercy.
14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
14 Moreover, (P)he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it (Q)with his finger on the (k)mercy seat on the east side; also in front of the (l)mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.
14 He is to take some of the bull’s blood(U) and sprinkle it with his finger against the east side of the mercy seat; then he will sprinkle some of the blood with his finger before the mercy seat seven times.(V)
14 He is to take blood from the ox and sprinkle it with his forefinger toward the surface of the Mercy Seat. Then he is to sprinkle the blood on the surface of the Mercy Seat with his forefinger seven times.
15 Aaron will slaughter the goat for the people's offering for sin. He will take the blood inside, go up to the canopy, and sprinkle it on the throne of mercy and in front of it, as he did with the bull's blood.
15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
15 “Then he shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering (R)which is for the people, and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the (m)mercy seat and in front of the (n)mercy seat.
15 “When he slaughters the male goat for the people’s sin offering and brings its blood inside the veil, he must do the same with its blood as he did with the bull’s blood: he is to sprinkle it against the mercy seat and in front of it.
15 "He is to slaughter the male goat as a sin offering for the people and bring its blood beyond the curtain and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull: He is to sprinkle it on the Mercy Seat that is, over the surface of the Mercy Seat.
16 He will pay compensation for the wrongdoing and make peace with Jehovah for all the sins the Israelites committed against the holy place. These sins happened because the Israelites were unclean and because they committed rebellious acts. He will do the same for the Tent of Meeting that is among an unclean people.
16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
16 (S)He shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the impurities of the sons of Israel and because of their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and thus he shall do for the tent of meeting which abides with them in the midst of their impurities.
16 He will purify the most holy place in this way for all their sins because of the Israelites’ impurities and rebellious acts.(W) He will do the same for the tent of meeting that remains among them, because it is surrounded by their impurities.
16 Then he is to make atonement on the sacred place on account of the uncleanness of the Israelis, their transgressions, and all their sins. This is how he is to act in the Tent of Meeting, which will remain with them in the middle of their uncleanness.
17 No one may be in the Tent of Meeting from the time Aaron enters the holy place to do this until he comes out. Aaron will pay compensation for wrongdoing and peace with Jehovah for his own sins, his family's sins, and the sins of the entire assembly of Israel.
17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
17 When he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, no one shall be in the tent of meeting until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself and for his household and for all the assembly of Israel.
17 No one may be in the tent of meeting from the time he enters to make atonement in the most holy place until he leaves after he has made atonement for himself, his household, and the whole assembly of Israel.(X)
17 "No person is to be there when he enters the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the sacred place, until he comes out and has made atonement on account of himself, his household, and the entire assembly of Israel.
18 He will go out to the altar in Jehovah's presence and pay compensation for the wrong and make peace with Jehovah for the sins committed. He will take some of the blood from the bull and some of the goat's blood and put it all around the horns of the altar.
18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.
18 Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and of the blood of the goat and (T)put it on the horns of the altar on all sides.
18 Then he will go out to the altar that is before the Lord and make atonement for it. He is to take some of the bull’s blood and some of the goat’s blood and put it on the horns on all sides of the altar.
18 When he goes to the altar in the LORD's presence to make atonement for himself, he is to take some of the blood from the bull and the male goat, place it around the horns of the altar,
19 With his finger he will sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times. Because the Israelites made it unclean, he will cleanse it and declare it holy.
19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
19 (U)With his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it seven times and cleanse it, and from the impurities of the sons of Israel consecrate it.
19 He is to sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times to cleanse and set it apart(Y) from the Israelites’ impurities.(Z)
19 and sprinkle it with the blood on his forefinger seven times, cleansing and sanctifying it from Israel's sins."
The Live Goat Ritual Procedures
20 When he finishes making peace with Jehovah at the holy place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he will bring the living goat forward.
20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
20 “When he finishes atoning for the holy place and the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall offer the live goat.
20 “When he has finished purifying the most holy place, the tent of meeting, and the altar, he is to present the live male goat.
20 "When he has completed making atonement at the sacred place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, then he is to present the live male goat.
21 Aaron will place both hands on its head. He will confess over it all the sins, all the rebellious acts, and all the things the Israelites did wrong. He will transfer them to the goat's head. A man will be appointed to release the goat in the desert.
21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
21 Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and (V)confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel and all their transgressions (o)in regard to all their sins; and he shall lay them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who stands in readiness.
21 Aaron will lay both his hands on the head of the live goat and confess(AA) over it all the Israelites’ wrongdoings(AB) and rebellious acts—all their sins.(AC) He is to put them on the goat’s head and send it away into the wilderness(AD) by the man appointed for the task.(d)
21 Aaron is to lay his two hands upon the head of the male goat and confess over it the sins of Israel, all their transgressions, and all their sins, thus placing them on the head of the male goat that he'll then send out to the wilderness by the hand of a man capable of carrying out this task.
22 The goat will take all their sins away to a deserted place. The man must release the goat in the desert.
22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
22 The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to a solitary land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.
22 The goat will carry on it all their wrongdoings into a desolate land,(AE) and he will release it there.
22 The male goat will bear on itself all their sins to a solitary land as Aaron sends the goat out to the wilderness.
