Jesus And Zacchaeus

1 And entering into Jericho he passed through it.

1 He (A)entered Jericho and was passing through.

1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

1 He entered Jericho and was passing through.

1 As Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it,

2 And behold, there was a man called Zaccheus, and he was chief publican, and was rich.

2 And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich.

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

2 There was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

2 a man named Zacchaeus appeared. He was a leading tax collector, and a rich one at that!

3 And he sought to see Jesus, who he was; and could not on account of the multitude, because he was of small stature.

3 Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.

3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man.

3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he couldn't do so due to the crowd, since he was a short man.

4 And running before, he went up on a sycamore that he might see him; for he was to pass by it.

4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a (a)(B)sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way.

4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

4 So running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus, since He was about to pass that way.

4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, who was going to pass that way.

5 And when he came to the place, Jesus looking up saw him, and said to him, Zaccheus, make haste and come down, for to-day I must stop at your house;

5 When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

5 When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because today I must stay at your house.”

5 When Jesus came to the tree, he looked up and said, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down! I must stay at your house today."

6 and he made haste and came down, and received him rejoicing.

6 And he hurried and came down and received Him (b)gladly.

6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

6 So he quickly came down and welcomed Him joyfully.

6 Zacchaeus came down quickly and was glad to welcome him into his home.

7 And seeing it, they all complained, saying, He has gone in to stop with a sinner.

7 When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone (c)to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

7 All who saw it began to complain,(A) “He’s gone to lodge with a sinful man!”

7 But all the people who saw this began to complain: "Jesus is going to be the guest of a notorious sinner!"

8 And Zaccheus stood up and said to the Lord, Behold, half of my property, Lord, I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of any thing, I restore fourfold.

8 Zaccheus stopped and said to (C)the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I (d)will give to the poor, and if I have (D)defrauded anyone of anything, I (e)will give back (E)four times as much.”

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

8 But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, I’ll give(a) half of my possessions to the poor,(B) Lord! And if I have extorted(C) anything from anyone, I’ll pay(b) back four times as much!”(D)

8 Later, Zacchaeus stood up and announced to the Lord, "Look! I'm giving half of my possessions to the destitute, and if I have accused anyone falsely, I'm repaying four times as much as I owe."

9 And Jesus said to him, To-day has salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is (F)a son of Abraham.

9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

9 “Today salvation(E) has come to this house,” Jesus told him, “because he too is a son of Abraham.(F)

9 Then Jesus told him, "Today salvation has come to this home, because this man is also a descendant of Abraham,

10 for the Son of man has come to seek and save the lost.

10 For (G)the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”(c)(G)

10 and the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost."

The Parable Of The Ten Minas

11 And when they were hearing these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh Jerusalem; and they thought that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.

11 While they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because (H)He was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that (I)the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.

11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

11 As(H) they were listening to this, He went on to tell a parable because He was near Jerusalem,(I) and they thought the kingdom of God was going to appear right away.(J)

11 As they were listening to this, Jesus went on to tell a parable because he was near Jerusalem and because the people thought that the kingdom of God would appear immediately.

12 He said, therefore, A certain nobleman went into a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and to return.

12 So He said, (J)A nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return.

12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

12 Therefore He said: “A nobleman traveled to a far country to receive for himself authority to be king(d) and then return.

12 So he said, "A prince went to a distant country to be appointed king and then to return.

13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten minas [$163.30], and said to them, Use them in business till I come.

13 And he called ten of his slaves, and gave them ten (f)minas and said to them, ‘Do business with this (g)until I come back.’

13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

13 He called 10 of his slaves, gave them 10 minas,(e) and told them, ‘Engage in business until I come back.’

13 He called ten of his servants and gave them ten coins. He told them, "Invest this money until I come back.'

14 And his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We wish not this man to reign over us.

14 But his citizens hated him and sent (h)a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

14 “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to rule over us!’

14 But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation to follow him and to announce, "We don't want this man to rule over us!'

15 And he returned, having received the kingdom, and ordered those servants to be called to him to whom he had given the money, that he might know what each one had done.

15 When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done.

15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

15 “At his return, having received the authority to be king,(f) he summoned those slaves he had given the money to, so he could find out how much they had made in business.

15 "After he was appointed king, the prince came back. He ordered the servants to whom he had given the money to be called so he could find out what they had earned by investing.

16 And the first came, saying, Lord, your mina [$16.33] has gained ten minas.

16 The first appeared, saying, ‘(i)Master, your (j)mina has made ten minas more.’

16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

16 The first came forward and said, ‘Master, your mina has earned 10 more minas.’

16 The first servant came and said, "Sir, your coin has earned ten more coins.'

17 And he said to him, Well, good servant; because you have been faithful in the least, have authority over ten cities.

17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been (K)faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’

17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

17 “‘Well done, good(g) slave!’ he told him. ‘Because you have been faithful(K) in a very small matter, have authority over 10 towns.’

17 The king told him, "Well done, good servant! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small thing, take charge of ten cities.'

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, your mina has made five minas.

18 The second came, saying, ‘Your (k)mina, (l)master, has made five minas.’

18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

18 “The second came and said, ‘Master, your mina has made five minas.’

18 "The second servant came and said, "Your coin, sir, has earned five coins.'

19 And he said to him, Be you over five cities.

19 And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

19 “So he said to him, ‘You will be over five towns.’

19 The king told him, "You take charge of five cities.'

20 And the other came, saying, Lord, behold your mina, which I had laid up in a napkin;

20 Another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a handkerchief;

20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

20 “And another came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina. I have kept it hidden away in a cloth

20 "Then the other servant came and said, "Sir, look! Here's your coin. I've kept it in a cloth for safekeeping

21 for I feared you, because you are an austere man; you take up what you laid not down, and reap what you did not sow.

21 for I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man; you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.’

21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

21 because I was afraid of you, for you’re a tough man: you collect what you didn’t deposit and reap what you didn’t sow.’(L)

21 because I was afraid of you. You are a hard man. You withdraw what you didn't deposit and harvest what you didn't plant.'

22 He said to him, Out of your mouth will I judge you, evil servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow?

22 He *said to him, ‘(m)By your own words I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am an exacting man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?

22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

22 “He told him, ‘I will judge you by what you have said,(h) you evil slave! If you knew I was a tough man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow,

22 The king told him, "I will judge you by your own words, you evil servant! You knew, did you, that I was a hard man, and that I withdraw what I didn't deposit and harvest what I didn't plant?

23 then why did you not put my silver on the [broker's] table, and when I came I should have had the same, with interest?

23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’

23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

23 why didn’t you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest!’

23 Then why didn't you put my money in the bank? When I returned, I could have collected it with interest.'

24 And he said to those standing by, Take from him the mina, and give it to him that has ten minas,??25 and they said to him, Lord, he has ten minas,??26 for I tell you, that to every one that has shall be given; but from him that has not, even what he has shall be taken away;

24 Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’

24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

24 So he said to those standing there, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has 10 minas.’

24 "So the king told those standing nearby, "Take the coin away from him and give it to the man who has the ten coins.'

25 but those my enemies that wished me not to reign over them, bring hither and kill them before me.

25 And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas already.’

25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

25 “But they said to him, ‘Master, he has 10 minas.’

25 They answered him, "Sir, he already has ten coins!'

The Triumphal Entry

26 AND having said these things he went forward going up to Jerusalem.

26 (L)I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away.

26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

26 “‘I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.(M)

26 "I tell you, to everyone who has something, more will be given, but from the person who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.

27 And when he came near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,

27 But (M)these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and (N)slay them in my presence.”

27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

27 But bring here these enemies of mine,(N) who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter(i) them in my presence.’”

27 But as for these enemies of mine who didn't want me to be their king bring them here and slaughter them in my presence!'"

28 saying, Go into the village opposite to you, and having entered into it you will find a colt tied, on which no man ever sat; untie and bring him;

28 After He had said these things, He (O)was going on ahead, (P)going up to Jerusalem.

28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

28 When(O) He had said these things, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.(P)

28 After Jesus had said this, he traveled on and went up to Jerusalem.

29 and if any one asks you, Why do you untie him? Say thus to him; The Lord has need of him.

29 (Q)When He approached Bethphage and (R)Bethany, near the (n)mount that is called (S)Olivet, He sent two of the disciples,

29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

29 As He approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives,(Q) He sent two of the disciples

29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples on ahead.

30 And those sent, going, found as he said to them.

30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here.

30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

30 and said, “Go into the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will find a young donkey tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here.

30 "Go into the village ahead of you," he said. "As you enter, you will find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it along.

31 And untying the colt, his owners said to them, Why do you untie the colt?

31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of it.’”

31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say this: ‘The Lord needs it.’”

31 If anyone asks you why you are untying it, say this: "The Lord needs it.'"

32 And they said, The Lord has need of him.

32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as He had told them.

32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

32 So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them.(R)

32 So those who were sent went off and found it as Jesus had told them.

33 And they brought him to Jesus; and spreading their clothes on the colt they put Jesus on him.

33 As they were untying the colt, its (o)owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

33 As they were untying the young donkey, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the donkey?”

33 While they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?"

34 And as he proceeded they spread their clothes in the way.

34 They said, “The Lord has need of it.”

34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

34 “The Lord needs it,” they said.

34 The disciples answered, "The Lord needs it."

35 And when he was now approaching, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, all the multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they saw,

35 They brought it to Jesus, (T)and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it.

35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

35 Then(S) they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their robes on the donkey, they helped Jesus get on it.(T)

35 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it, and Jesus sat upon it.

36 saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord; peace be in heaven, and glory in the highest [heavens].

36 As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road.

36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

36 As He was going along, they were spreading their robes on the road.(U)

36 As he was riding along, people kept spreading their coats on the road.

37 And some of the Pharisees, from the multitude, said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

37 As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of (U)the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to (V)praise God (p)joyfully with a loud voice for all the (q)miracles which they had seen,

37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

37 Now He came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:

37 He was now approaching the descent from the Mount of Olives. The whole crowd of disciples began to rejoice and to praise God with a loud voice because of all the miracles they had seen.

38 And he answered and said to them, I tell you that if these should be silent the stones would cry out.

38 shouting:(W)Blessed is the (X)King who comes in the name of the Lord;Peace in heaven and (Y)glory in the highest!”

38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

38 The King(V) who comesin the name of the Lord(j)(W)(k)is the blessed One.Peace in heavenand glory(X) in the highest heaven!(Y)

38 They said, "How blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!"

Jesus Weeps Over Jerusalem

39 And when he came near and saw the city he wept over it,

39 (Z)Some of the Pharisees (r)in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

39 Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd told Jesus, "Teacher, tell your disciples to be quiet."

40 saying, O, that you had known, even you, and indeed in this your day, the things which are for your peace! But now they are hid from your eyes.

40 But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, (AA)the stones will cry out!”

40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

40 He answered, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out!”(Z)

40 He replied, "I tell you, if they were quiet, the stones would cry out!"

41 For days of [trouble] will come upon you, and your enemies shall throw an embankment around you, and shut you in, and press you on every side,

41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and (AB)wept over it,

41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

41 As He approached and saw the city, He wept(AA) over it,

41 When he came closer and saw the city, he began to grieve over it:

42 and destroy you and your children with you, and not leave stone upon stone in you; because you knew not the time of your visitation.

42 saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.

42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

42 saying, “If you knew(AB) this day what would bring peace—but now it is hidden(AC) from your eyes.

42 "If you had only known today what could have brought you peace! But now it is hidden from your sight,

The Cleansing Of The Temple

43 And going into the temple he cast out those that sold,

43 For the days will come upon you (s)when your enemies will (AC)throw up a (t)barricade against you, and (AD)surround you and hem you in on every side,

43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

43 For the days will come on you(AD) when your enemies will build an embankment against you, surround you, and hem you in on every side.(AE)

43 because the days will come when your enemies will build walls around you, surround you, and close you in on every side.

44 saying to them, it is written, My house shall be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.

44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and (AE)they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize (AF)the time of your visitation.”

44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

44 They will crush you and your children within you to the ground,(AF) and they will not leave one stone on another(AG) in you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”(AH)

44 They will level you to the ground you and those who live within your city limits. They will not leave one stone on another within your walls, because you didn't recognize the time when you were visited."

45 AND he taught daily in the temple; and the chief priests, and scribes, and the first of the people sought to destroy him.

45 (AG)Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling,

45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

45 He(AI) went into the temple complex and began to throw out those who were selling,(l)

45 Then Jesus went into the Temple and began to throw out those who were selling things.

46 And they found nothing that they could do; for all the people were attentive to hear him.

46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘(AH)And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ (AI)but you have made it a robbers(u)den.”

46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

46 and He said, “It is written, My house will be a house of prayer,(AJ) but you have made it a den of thieves!”(AK)(m)

46 He told them, "It is written, "My house is to be called a house of prayer,' but you have turned it into a hideout for bandits!"
