A Paralytic Healed

1 And, entering again into Capernaum, after some days, it was heard say - He is in a house;

1 When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.

1 And again he entered into Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

1 When(A) He entered Capernaum(B) again after some days, it was reported that He was at home.

1 Several days later, Jesus returned to Capernaum and it was reported that he was at home.

2 and many were gathered together, so that no longer was there room even in the approaches to the door, - and he began speaking unto them the word;

2 And (A)many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

2 So many people gathered together that there was no more room, not even in the doorway, and He was speaking the message(C) to them.

2 Such a large crowd gathered that there wasn't room for them, even in front of the door. Jesus was speaking his message to them

3 and they come, bearing unto him a paralytic, upborne by four, -

3 (B)And they *came, bringing to Him a (C)paralytic, carried by four men.

3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

3 Then they came to Him bringing a paralytic,(D) carried by four men.

3 when some people came and brought him a paralyzed man being carried by four men.

4 and, not being able to get near him by reason of the multitude, they uncovered the roof where he was, and, having broken it up, they began letting down the couch whereon the paralytic was lying;

4 Being unable to (a)get to Him because of the crowd, they (D)removed the roof (b)above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the (E)paralytic was lying.

4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

4 Since they were not able to bring him to(a) Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above where He was. And when they had broken through, they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying.

4 Since they couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof over the place where he was. They dug through it and let down the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying.

5 and, Jesus, seeing their faith, saith unto the paralytic - Child! forgiven are thy sins!

5 And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, (c)Son, (F)your sins are forgiven.”

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

5 Seeing their faith,(E) Jesus told the paralytic, “Son, your sins(F) are forgiven.”(G)

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he told the paralyzed man, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

6 Now there were certain of the Scribes there, sitting and deliberating in their hearts, -

6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,

6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

6 But some of the scribes(H) were sitting there, thinking(I) to themselves:(b)

6 Now some scribes were sitting there, arguing among themselves,

7 Why doth, this, man thus talk? he is speaking profanely! Who can forgive sins, save one, God?

7 “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; (G)who can forgive sins (d)but God alone?”

7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

7 “Why does He speak like this? He’s blaspheming!(J) Who can forgive(K) sins(L) but God alone?”(M)

7 "Why does this man talk this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

8 And Jesus, straightway, taking note in his spirit, that thusthey are deliberating within themselves, saith unto them- Why, these things, are ye deliberating in your hearts?

8 Immediately Jesus, aware (e)in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, “Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?

8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

8 Right away(N) Jesus understood in His spirit(O) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?(c)

8 At once, Jesus knew in his spirit what they were saying to themselves. "Why are you arguing about such things among yourselves?" he asked them.

9 Which is easier - to say unto the paralytic, Forgiven are thy sins, or to say, Rise, and take up thy couch, and be walking?

9 Which is easier, to say to the (H)paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?

9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

9 Which is easier:(P) to say to the paralytic,(Q) ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’?(R)

9 "Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, "Your sins are forgiven,' or "Get up, pick up your mat, and walk'?

10 But, that ye may know that the Son of Man hath authority to be forgiving sins upon the earth, he saith to the paralytic:

10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He *said to the paralytic,

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

10 But so you may know that the Son of Man(S) has authority(T) on earth to forgive sins,”(U) He told the paralytic,

10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"" Then he told the paralyzed man,

11 To thee, I say, Rise, take up thy couch, and be going thy way unto thy house.

11 “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home.”

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

11 “I tell you: get up,(V) pick up your mat, and go home.”

11 "I say to you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home!"

12 And he arose, and, straightway taking up the couch, went forth before all, - so that all were beside themselves and were glorifying God, saying- Thus, we never saw it!

12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and (I)were glorifying God, saying, “(J)We have never seen anything like this.”

12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

12 Immediately he got up, picked up the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded(W) and gave glory(X) to God,(Y) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”(Z)

12 So the man got up, immediately picked up his mat, and went out in front of all of them. As a result, all of the people were amazed and began to glorify God as they kept on saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"

Levi Called To Follow Jesus

13 And he went forth again by the sea, - and all the multitude was coming unto him, and he began teaching them.

13 And He went out again by the seashore; and (K)all the (f)people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

13 Then(AA) Jesus went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd was coming to Him, and He taught(AB) them.

13 Jesus went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd kept coming to him, and he kept teaching them.

14 And, passing by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting over the tax-office, - and saith unto him - Be following me! And, arising, he followed him.

14 (L)As He passed by, He saw (g)(M)Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He *said to him, (N)Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

14 Then, moving on, He saw Levi(AC) the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office,(AD) and He said to him, “Follow Me!”(AE) So he got up and followed(AF) Him.

14 As he was walking along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax collector's desk. Jesus told him, "Follow me!" So Levi got up and followed him.

Dining With Sinners

15 And it cometh to pass, that he is reclining in his house, and many tax-collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many, and they began following him.

15 And it *(h)happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and (i)sinners (j)were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him.

15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

15 While He was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, many tax collectors(AG) and sinners(AH) were also guests(d)(AI) with Jesus and His disciples, because there were many who were following Him.

15 Later, he was having dinner at Levi's house. Many tax collectors and sinners were also eating with Jesus and his disciples, because there were many who were following him.

16 And the Scribes and Pharisees, seeing that he was eating with the sinners and the tax-collectors, began saying unto his disciples - With the tax-collectors and sinners, is he eating?

16 When (O)the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “(P)Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and (k)sinners?”

16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

16 When the scribes(AJ) of the Pharisees(e)(AK) saw that He was eating(AL) with sinners(AM) and tax collectors,(AN) they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat(f) with tax collectors and sinners?”

16 When the scribes and the Pharisees saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples, "Why does he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"

17 And, hearing it, Jesus saith unto them - No need, have the strong of a physician, but they who are sick, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

17 And hearing this, Jesus *said to them, (Q)It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

17 When Jesus heard this, He told them, “Those who are well don’t need(AO) a doctor,(AP) but the sick(AQ) do need one. I didn’t come to call the righteous,(AR) but sinners.”(AS)

17 When Jesus heard that, he told them, "Healthy people don't need a physician, but sick ones do. I did not come to call righteous people, but sinners."

On Fasting

18 And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting; and they come and say unto him - For what cause, do, the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees, fast, whereas, thy disciples, fast not?

18 (R)John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they *came and *said to Him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

18 Now(AT) John’s(AU) disciples(AV) and the Pharisees(g)(AW) were fasting.(AX) People came and asked Him, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees would fast regularly. Some people came and asked Jesus, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisees' disciples fast, but your disciples don't fast?"

19 And Jesus said unto them - Is it possible for the sons of the bridechamber, while the bridegroom is with them, to be fasting? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, it is impossible, to fast.

19 And Jesus said to them, “While the bridegroom is with them, (l)the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

19 Jesus said to them, “The wedding guests(h) cannot fast while the groom(AY) is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast.

19 Jesus replied, "The wedding guests can't fast while the groom is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they can't fast.

20 But there will come days, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and, then, they will fast, in that day.

20 But the (S)days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.

20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

20 But the time(i) will come(AZ) when the groom is taken away from them,(BA) and then they will fast(BB) in that day.

20 But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day."

21 No one, seweth a patch of unshrunk cloth upon an old mantle, - otherwise, at least, the shrinking teareth away from it - the new from the old - and, a worse rent is made.

21 “No one sews (m)a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise (n)the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.

21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

21 No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new patch pulls away from the old cloth,(BC) and a worse tear is made.

21 "No one patches an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth. If he does, the patch pulls away from it the new from the old and a worse tear is made.

22 And, no one, poureth new wine into fold skins, - otherwise, at least, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and, the skins. But new wine is for unused skins.

22 No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”

22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

22 And no one puts new wine(BD) into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst(BE) the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the skins.(j) But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”

22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will make the skins burst, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins."

Plucking Grain On The Sabbath

23 And it came to pass, that he, on the Sabbath, was passing through the cornfields, and his disciples began to be going forward, plucking the ears of corn.

23 (T)And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while (U)picking the heads of grain.

23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

23 On(BF) the Sabbath He was going through the grainfields, and His disciples(BG) began to make their way picking some heads of grain.

23 Jesus happened to be going through the grain fields on a Sabbath. As they made their way, his disciples began picking the heads of grain.

24 And, the Pharisees, were saying, - See! why are they doing, on the Sabbath, what is not allowed?

24 The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, (V)why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

24 The Pharisees(BH) said to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful(BI) on the Sabbath?”

24 The Pharisees asked him, "Look! Why are they doing what is not lawful on Sabbath days?"

25 And he saith unto them - Have ye never read what David did, when he had need and hungered, - he, and they who were with him:

25 And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;

25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David(BJ) and those who were with him did when he was in need(BK) and hungry(BL)

25 He asked them, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?

26 howhe entered into the house of God, while Abiathar was High-priest, and, the presence-bread, did eat, - which it is not allowed to eat, save unto the priests, - and gave, unto them also who were with him?

26 how he entered the house of God in the time of (W)Abiathar the high priest, and ate the (o)consecrated bread, which (X)is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”

26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar(BM) the high priest(BN) and ate the sacred bread(BO)—which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests(BP)—and also gave some to his companions?”

26 How was it that he went into the House of God during the lifetime of Abiathar the high priest and ate the Bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat, and gave some of it to his companions?"

27 And he was saying unto them - The Sabbath, for man, was made, and not, man, for, the Sabbath:

27 Jesus said to them, (Y)The Sabbath (p)was made (q)for man, and (Z)not man (r)for the Sabbath.

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

27 Then He told them, “The Sabbath was made for(k) man and not man for(l) the Sabbath.(BQ)

27 Then he told them, "The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.

28 So that the Son of Man is, Lord, even of the Sabbath.

28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

28 Therefore, the Son of Man(BR) is Lord(BS) even of the Sabbath.”(BT)

28 Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
