17 All the generations, therefore, from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations, and from David unto the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal unto the Christ, fourteen generations.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the (J)deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the (K)deportation to Babylon to (q)the Messiah, fourteen generations.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David totaled fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon totaled fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah there were fourteen generations.
18 And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: For his mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
18 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they lived together she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
19 and Joseph her husband being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, did wish privately to send her away.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
19 Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to disgrace her, decided to divorce her secretly.
20 And on his thinking of these things, lo, a messenger of the Lord in a dream appeared to him, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, thou mayest not fear to receive Mary thy wife, for that which in her was begotten is of the Holy Spirit,
20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “(O)Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for (u)the Child who has been (v)conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
20 But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit.(R)
20 After he had thought about it, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," he said, "don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.'
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he is the one who will save his people from their sins."
22 And all this hath come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
22 Now all this happened to fulfill what was declared by the Lord through the prophet when he said,
23 Lo, the virgin shall conceive, and she shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,' which is, being interpreted 'With us he is God.'
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
23 "See, a virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel,"
24 And Joseph, having risen from the sleep, did as the messenger of the Lord directed him, and received his wife,
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
24 which means, "God with us." When Joseph got up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.
25 and did not know her till she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
25 He did not have marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.
