15 (f)Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a (g)(N)lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

15 “Lord,” he said, “have mercy on my son, because he has seizures(i) and suffers severely. He often falls into the fire and often into the water.

15 and said, "Sir, have mercy on my son, because he is an epileptic and suffers terribly. Often he falls into fire and often into water.

16 And I brought him to Thy disciples, and they could not heal him."

16 I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

16 I brought him to Your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”(M)

16 I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn't heal him."

17 And Jesus, answering, said, "O faithless and perverted generation! How long shall I be with you? Bring him here to Me."

17 And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

17 Jesus replied, “You unbelieving and rebellious(j) generation! How long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”(N)

17 Jesus replied, "You unbelieving and perverted generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me!"

18 And Jesus rebuked it, and the demon went out of him, and the boy was healed from that hour.

18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured (h)at once.

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon,(k) and it(l) came out of him,(O) and from that moment(m) the boy was healed.

18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out of him, and the boy was healed that very hour.

19 Then the disciples, coming near, said to Jesus privately, "Why could not we cast it out?"

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?”

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

19 Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

20 And He saith to them, "Because of your little faith. For verily I say to you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say to this mountain, 'Remove hence yonder,' and it will be removed, and nothing shall be impossible to you."

20 And He *said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, (O)if you have faith (i)the size of (P)a mustard seed, you will say to (Q)this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and (R)nothing will be impossible to you.

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

20 “Because of your little faith,” He(n) told them. “For I assure you: If you have faith the size of(o) a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.(P) Nothing will be impossible for you.(Q)

20 He told them, "Because of your lack of faith. I tell all of you with certainty, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

21 ["But this kind goes not out, except by prayer and fasting.]

21 [(j)(S)But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”]

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

21 [However, this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.](p)

22 And, while they were assembled together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men;

22 (T)And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be (k)delivered into the hands of men;

22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

22 As(R) they were meeting(q) in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.

22 While they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into human hands.

23 and they will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up." And they were grieved exceedingly.

23 and (U)they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved.

23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

23 They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.” And they were deeply distressed.

23 They will kill him, but he will be raised on the third day." Then they were filled with grief.

Paying The Double Drachma Temple Tax

24 And, when they came into Capernaum, those receiving the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, "Doth not your Teacher pay the half-shekel?"

24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected (V)the (l)two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay (W)the (m)two-drachma tax?”

24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the double-drachma tax(r) approached Peter and said, “Doesn’t your Teacher pay the double-drachma tax?”(S)

24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came up to Peter and asked, "Your teacher pays the temple tax, doesn't he?"

25 He says, "Yes." And Jesus anticipated him as he came into the house, saying, "What do you think, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive tax or tribute? from their sons, or from the aliens?"

25 He *said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect (X)customs or (Y)poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?”

25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

25 “Yes,” he said. When he went into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,(s) “What do you think, Simon? Who do earthly kings collect tariffs or taxes from? From their sons or from strangers?”(t)(T)

25 He answered, "Yes." When Peter went home, Jesus spoke to him first and asked him, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings on the earth collect tolls or tributes? From their own subjects, or from foreigners?"

26 And, when he said, "From the aliens," Jesus said to him, "Consequently the sons are free;

26 When Peter said, “From strangers,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are (n)exempt.

26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

26 “From strangers,” he said.(u)“Then the sons are free,” Jesus told him.

26 "From foreigners," he replied.

27 but, that we may not cause them to stumble; having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the fish first coming up; and, opening its mouth, you will find a shekel; taking that, give it to them for Me and you."

27 However, so that we do not (o)(Z)offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find (p)a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

27 “But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.(v) Take it and give it to them for Me and you.”(U)

27 So Jesus told him, "In that case, the subjects are exempt. However, so that we don't offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, open its mouth, and you will find a coin. Take it and give it to them for me and you."
