And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
For when they came up from Egypt, and Israel
went through the wilderness to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh,
sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
and command the people, saying, “You will pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful;
“You shall not detest an Edomite, for
he is your brother; you shall not detest an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land.
“Because of violence to your brother Jacob, You will be covered with shame, And you will be cut off forever.
loved you,” says the Lord. But you say, “How have You loved us?” “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet I have loved Jacob;
Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians
for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had befallen them on the journey, and how the Lord had delivered them.
Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
