Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil,
But a fool is arrogant and careless.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight,
But the Lord weighs the motives.
Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes,
But the poor who has understanding sees through him.
There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes,
Yet is not washed from his filthiness.
The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

But

A wise man will hear and increase in learning,
And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,
Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline,
That you may be wise the rest of your days.
A poor yet wise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive instruction.
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I tell you, will you not certainly put me to death? Besides, if I give you advice, you will not listen to me.”
